Most scholars agree that if there is a hell, Dante's Inferno is the closest we'll ever understand it to be. It's funny because Paradiso and Purgitorio are often dismissed. But the Inferno always grabs people's attention.

I think my favorite part (or at least the part I can remember the best) is how all the fortune tellers end up in hell with their heads torn off and sewn on backwards. That's what they get for trying to see what only God can see.

I also like how Dante incorporated many of the ancient mythical greek and roman creatures into parts of the medieval christian underworld.

I think there was a map of Dante's inferno somewhere with where current celebrities would be.
