Ultimate fail: Bentley chose SUV over sports car
http://www.worldcarfans.com/11203194...se-a-crossover
Just read that that stupid concept Bentley came out with was chosen over a 911/XK rival. Honestly, I'm sick of seeing all these SUVs and sportbacks etc. especially when they result in cars we want to see being axed. I'm not saying I'd be in the market for this type of car but the new Continental GT with 4.0 V8TT seems to be really good. So I'm sure a smaller coupe would be a real hit.

Plus, I think it will be a billion times easier to design and engineer an over-the-top ultra-luxury SUV to be competitive against the likes of Cayenne, X5M, ML63 AMG, Range Rover Supercharged and even the upcoming Lamborghini SUV, than it is to build a sports car to compete with the golden standard 911. I really cannot imagine it being very difficult to build this new SUV since it can probably reuse most of the existing chassis from the other big sedans and modify it for use in an SUV. A new sports car would require a completely new chassis. |

They don't need another super sports car, that's what the Continental GT is for.
It makes complete sense that they would move forward with the production of an SUV. Bentley is centered around exquisite luxury and refinement. "Sport" anything is the last thing on their agenda. They only include it to add some "sex appeal" to their brand. |

It's not the US they are thinking about for sales - it's the rest of the world, especially developing countries where the new rich want big cars that symbolize power and prestige.

I can't imagine looking to seriously at a Bentley for a high performance track-oriented coupe. |

You really think VW is going to have 911, R8, Gallardo and a new Bentley sports car all competing in the same market? Bentley aren't a sportscar manufacturer anymore, probably none of us on this forum were alive when Bentley actually built a sportscar.
They're going to build this SUV and they will sell huge numbers of them in China, Russia and the US, it's good business, building a sportscar is a daft idea. What I'm really looking forward to from Bentley is the Mulsanne Coupe, I hope they are going to build a replacement for the Brooklands. |

exactly! size and status make up the majority of this market. And the Chinese and Russian market will be the target market and then the US....

Ok this was prob a bad example since I'd never buy a bentley, but what I'm saying is we are seeing more of these SUVs than cars we would rather see. That Audi Quattro concept they made won't make it to production, but that doesn't stop them making more of these stupid Q models.
