Glad my N54 is still up there. Got the PPK, and it still pulls hard at 95k miles.

While that's what I've heard, I do seem to notice a distinct lack of power until much higher in the rev range when I'm mashing on the pedal in my 328i. I thought I was supposed to have full torque starting at 2,500 rpm? I attributed this to turbo lag, but I know nothing about it.

Btw, I'm not the one who made the original turbo lag post, I'm just curious about it myself.

Try driving a Saab or a MB C250 and report back what turbo lag is, if your complaining about the N20 and turbo lag you have not driven many turbo applications. On my old STi there was easily 1 to 2 seconds on the stock turbo which was hailed as a very quick spooling turbo. If there is half a second of turbo lag on the N20 I dont notice it.

I was referring to the heading "N13" in the post. Jason already clarified that he simply tends to use the two interchangeably though. No big deal, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a misunderstanding on my part.

It peaks at 1250 and is nice and flat, saw it on the dyno.

It also makes about 7-8% less than it's peak hp as high as about fuel cut off at 6500-6700, so it is not like the engine falls flat on it's face. So even at fuel cut it's putting out 200+whp.

You are correct! n13 is the engine on the 1er and n18 is the engine on the mini!
I just wrote my last post to clarify that the topic title was somewhat inaccurate because the article never mentioned either of the engines specifically, but rather the entire Prince family. In any case, I see that it's been corrected already, so no biggie from me either! haha

Man, it just feels like when I down shift to 2 and it's not at a point where my rpm is at least 4,000 or higher, I don't feel pushed back into my seat until I get it back up there.

Can't wait to see what BMW delivers with the F80.

+1 more.

They've pretty much eliminated it. Throttle response outside of Sport isn't as tight though (as should be expected).

The N20 makes good power and good gas mileage but it sounds like garbage. I would not have picked it as #1 until they fix the sound.

I think M3 4.0 liter in close second to McLaren MP4 12C after 5 years of production is still awesome

Also, the 3.0 liter turbo engines are great and deserve to be in 2nd, 3rd, 4th. In fact I think the N54 should have won over the Porsche. The N54 sounds good, feels strong from down low and has rush in middle like very few other engines. It has the ability to pin you back in your seat like much bigger engines.

Makes me feel warm and fuzzy. I just got mine last week and love driving it! My only complaint is the look of the front bumper on the sport line IMO it should look more aggressive like the m-sport. It may only be my perception though.

There are like 8 muffler and catback options out now that do a very good job of adding sound back into the picture.
