Last few days with my F30.
I found someone from craigslist to takeover my lease and the stage 1 is complete.
Why I am selling the car? Well, i don't drive that much. I put only 4000 miles till now and the monthly expense on car is about $800(400 lease, 120 insurance, 150 parking, 130 gas & toll). I m changing jobs and that will make me work long hours depriving me further from driving. I take bus to work in NYC and mostly use car for gym, grocery or weekends within 30 mile radius. About the new owner The buyer is a lawyer from Upstate New York .She didn't even come to see the car and said she will have someone from Staten Island pick the car. I am not sure I would be dealing in this way but hey to each their own. I am dealing with full honesty and agreed to refund the transfer fee upon successful assumption. Anyway, so i feel a bit sad about letting her go as she was my birthday gift to myself and is only 8 months old. I drove her out the dealership on my birthday. At the same time, I am excited about new beginnings. I may move to Manhattan island and enjoy the city for a while or move to jersey and save enough to buy a home next year. Again, the move is tentative and still deciding. The possibilities are endless. Why did I post here? To see what others went thru to sell their car. - How did you sell your car? Craigslist or swaplease/leasetrader - Any tips or stories from your lease transfer? - What were your deciding factors to sell/lease transfer? Finance/marriage etc. Thanks Ya'all for making a great community. I learnt so much here. PS: I will still frequent the forums but not like earlier.

How? She paid the fee and did online application with BMW. I called BMWFS and they confirmed the approval. I googled her page and she seems a legit lawyer from Buffalo NY. She is emailing me every single correspondence with BMW even though I am getting same directly from BMW. I spoke to her over phone and it was her work number with confirmed address.
I am not planning on releasing the car till BMW tells me to. I know emails can be forged that's why I call them everytime and confirm.

You'll get over it soon, it was a lease after all. It's not like this day wasn't coming. Sucks about your lack of driving opportunity though. That would just about end me if i wasn't able to drive as much as i do.
At least you found someone quick and easy to deal with.

I guess it really depends on the age and driving history and insurance plan but I live in SF also and dont pay anywhere close to that. I have a $500 deductible 2 way insurance.

Good luck to you, I guess....
NYC is an exciting and vibrant place for sure, but not exactly ideal if you are a car guy. It's funny sometimes talking to people from there (or similar places), because they talk about not having to own a car or drive, like someone saying they dont have to get their wisdom tooth extracted. They rarely phrase it as not being able to own a car or drive. To me, that's no different than hearing someone say, "hey, I just discovered I dont have to have sex with my super hot wife, science can help me impregnate her with a syringe instead". WTF? |

Yea. I have a speeding ticket 2 years ago from VA. Also the neighboring areas to NYC are always expensive.

There is a difference between living in NYC and living in NJ. OP lives in NJ which is pretty suburby for the most part and commutes (via bus) to NYC which is an exact thing I do. I do have the same issue as OP that my beloved e86 only gets driven 8 months of the year only during good weather on the weekends.
OP, save your dough and get into a nice weekend cruiser in a few years!

Moreover parking is a PAIN IN DA ARSE. The expired meter ticket in NYC costs $100 & no standing $115. When towed be ready to shell out $185 + violation ticket. If you want to play safe, parking costs $20/hr in city. And you pay a toll to enter the city from jersey $8.50 non-peak & $13 peak. Driving in city is an adventure too, the NYC cabbies are the craziest drivers I've seen. You easily inflict small scratches on a brand new car within a week. Traffic is another major turn-off. ^THIS. I couldn't justify spending so much just because I love driving a BMW. It takes out all the fun. FYI, I live in jersey right across hudson river and mostly hang-out in the city. NJ is a big state, if was living in Central or Northern Jersey then things would have been different.

I wish the public transit in SF is as good as NY. When I go to Asian countries like HK, Japan, Korea, the public transit would make SF transit look like a joke. In Asia, you can actually survive without a car and is actually more convenient to not have a car than having one.

You are down the road from me!
I am soon to be a resident of Edgewater. Just bought a place and renovating it. Moving in October/Novemberish.

120 for insurance? Wow you're very lucky. My dad pays $280 for insurance in Toronto.
By the way, sorry that you have to let go of your F30. Seems to me you really loved that car. And yes, parking is a bitch in NYC. Went there the other week, and I saw a sign that said that parking is $550 a month? Total madness. |
