2016 400hp/350tq Infiniti Q50 twin turbo v6 3.0L - $50k msrp
I know there's nothing home to write about 400hp/350tq 3.0L V6 twin turbo. A N54 can achieve that with bolt-ons and a tune.
But then think about the fact that this is a factory stock tune backed by a warranty! It's also the same price as when the first 335i's loaded were. In addition, it comes close to the current F80 M3 HP. Plus, what about tuning potential. Might this car do 425-450hp with a little tune? Any insights? |

It's all about how the car puts down the power as well, no one knows if it'll have turbo lag or how reliable the engine will be or even if the internals can take a certain amount of power until we get the blueprints or manual of the engine that is being put in. 400hp/350tq, it will probably dyno at about 350WHP and 300WTQ if they underrate the engine. We'll wait till it releases and then judge, numbers look good, pricing doesn't. Not to mention, BMW straight six has always been good to FBO without problems (so far) the N54/N55/B58 is quite easy to achieve 400WHP/400+WTQ and hit low to mid 12s reliably. |

I'm seeing $48K for RWD and $50k for AWD. And considering that trim level is equivalent to the M-Sport package 340i (~$49.5k RWD, $51.5k AWD), it's actually a decent deal for 400hp. But we'll see how it performs once the rags get ahold of it.

q60 coupe will be out as a 2017 model. I was going to purchase the coupe if it came in 6MT
This engine is the 2nd VR engine besides the current GTR motor. Last VQ37VHR was capable up to 500 WHP on stock block(plenty of people running 7PSI on twin setup) This engine should have more tuning potential granted they took out the VVT on these. |

website says 350TQ is available at 1600rpm all the way through 5500rpm which sounds pretty good, but i agree they def need a proper tranny in that thing. i had a G37 years ago and i hated that transmission along with the suspension

We know three things:
Engine will make good power/tq once tuned and modded, there will be a sizable aftermarket for it given history with the brand. Transmission will suck. Car will be heavy. Now: if they put it in the new Z... That would be interesting.

This car is basically trying to do what BMW has been doing to it's turbo 3-series for a while. It does great in three categories but does not excel in none. HP means nothing if it doesn't feel like it has it. (ie: tranny and suspension).

Seems like the Q50s isn't really a "bring it to track" car at all. Too much electronics interfering.
Turbos bolted directly into cylinder heads means can't switch out turbos, so modding potential doesn't seem too high. |

As discussed in prior threads, this car is in the same class as the new 2017 B9 Audi S4 and W205 Mercedes-AMG C43. I suppose you could throw the 2017 Volvo S60 Polestar into the mix too if you are looking for something different (and don't mind a transverse engine, which also happens to only have four cylinders).
The Infiniti is the cheapest as far as starting MSRP (but not by much), and it also has the most power by about 10%. However, it remains to be seen if it is the winner in the category. My gut feeling is that the AMG (which you can buy today if you don't mind the left-over MY2016 with the C450 badge) will prove to be the best of the bunch. To be fair, the Infiniti is the only one you can get with RWD. So if that's your priority, Q50 is the one. |

I currently drive a 2008 335xi and have several modifications in place (JB4, downpipes, straight pipe exhaust system, spacers). I am interested in trading this in for a new 340i, however, I test drove an Infiniti Q50S Red Sport (400hp) and really enjoyed the driving experience with the Infiniti. I found that the Q50 has more interior space, more advanced technology, more horsepower (the car is a beast!), and doesn't have the staggered tire formation (AWD model). With staggered tires, you can't rotate the tires, and have to spend significantly more on tire replacement. I know that the BMW drives and handles extremely well having owned one for 6 years, however, the poor reliability factor of the BMW concerns me. What is your opinion on both cars and is the new BMW built better than the 2008 335xi which is prone to check engine lights and numerous very expensive repairs. I'm having a tough time deciding which is the better car. They are both similarly priced. Please shed your insight on both of these amazing machines. Thank you
