The regular Z06 has 335 tires, and it breaks traction anytime at will. If anything, the ZR1 needs race compounds to put the power down fully.

Chevrolet Unveils 2019 Corvette ZR1 Convertible In LA

Quote:
Barely two weeks after premiering the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, the American automaker has surprised many be unveiling the new Corvette ZR1 Convertible at the LA Auto Show.

Beneath the skin, the ZR1 Convertible is powered by the same LT5 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine as the coupe, therefore delivering an identical 755 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque. This will allow the car to accelerate from naught to 60 mph (96 km/h) in under 3 seconds and complete the quarter mile in the high 10-second range.

Chevrolet hasn’t produced a ZR1 Convertible since the original model premiered in 1970. Clearly eager to ensure the car has been worth the weight, Chevrolet has ensured that it’s only 60 lbs (27 kg) heavier than the hardtop. Thanks to the supercar’s rigid structure, the ZR1 Convertible promises handling to rival its sibling.

“The ZR1 convertible is a no-compromise supercar. Thanks to the strong structure, the suspension tuning between coupe and convertible models is identical, meaning the ZR1 convertible offers the same benchmark performance, including a top speed of over 200 mph,” said Corvette executive chief engineer Tadge Juechter.

Like the coupe, the 2019 Corvette ZR1 Convertible can be equipped with the $2,995 ZTK Performance Package, adding a large rear wing, front splitter, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and Magnetic Ride control suspension. The car produces up to 950 lbs of downforce.

Chevrolet has confirmed that the ZR1 Coupe will start at $119,995 while the ZR1 Convertible will be priced from $123,995.

Followed a black one a few days ago. Has a surprising amount more road presence than a Z06. Certainly stood out with the big wing.

I'm not sure how I feel about the vMax claims as C&D only hit 18x with theirs. Clearly removing the aero bits allows for a higher speed, but that just seems a little contrived if you have to remove parts to get the top speed. So it's either set up for the track or for a hypothetical test track vMax, not both.

I know it's cheaper than a GT3 RS or certainly a Macca 720s, but both achieve their vMax without taking parts off and while retaining their track prowess. Hopefully the C8 won't need these shenanigans.

Car and Driver did 180 in stock form in the standing mile, not a Vmax run. It’ll need more than a mile to hit top speed.

I don't think there's any "shenanigans" going on. The ZR1 with the ZTK track package (the big wing, stiffer suspension tuning, and some other things I don't remember) will have a lower top speed than the "regular" ZR1 with the lower wing.

C7 Corvette ZR1 Nürburgring Lap Time Potentially Revealed

Quote:
The Corvette team said farewell to a longtime member of its team in Jim Mero. Mero retired on September 1 and spent 13 years of his 34-year-long career at General Motors on the Corvette team, and in a gift from his colleagues, we may now know how quick the 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1 is around the Nürburgring.

A photo of Mero’s retirement gift posted to the Corvette Forum shows a picture collage of Mero’s accomplishments behind the wheel. At the bottom reads seven lap times with the now-retired driver behind the wheel at the Nürburgring, and at the far right sits the C7 Corvette ZR1. The time? 6:57.00.

Chevrolet has never made a lap time for the C7 Corvette ZR1 public, but there’s a catch to the 6:57 time shown. It’s denoted with an “S” at the end. We don’t officially know what the “S” stands for, but forum members speculate it could denote segment times, rather than one full lap. Thus, the 6:57 may not be an official lap with the car. Instead, it would add up Mero’s times from each segment of the Nürburgring clocked at different times.

The team also never gave the public an official time for the C7 Corvette Z06, either, but the photo shows a 7:10.00 time for the car minus an “S.” The time appears legitimate noting Sport Auto lapped the Z06 in 7:13 previously.

Why the team never published the time publicly remains a mystery, but we have a feeling a proper lap time for the ZR1 doesn’t actually exist. The 6:57 does give us a good idea where the ZR1 would fall, however.

If we use the time, it would make the 755-horsepower Corvette tied for the seventh fastest time with the Porsche 918 Spyder and quicker than plenty of other performance machines. But, the car’s time may remain a mystery unless more news is yet to come.

Yup, same with a C7Z with stage 1 aero vs stage 3
