Mercedes-Benz is planning to debut an all-new shooting brake concept — dubbed the CLK Shooting Brake — at this October's Paris Motor Show, a new report finds. The three-door sport hatch will be based on the same platform as the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E class and should share most of the sedan's styling — giving us an early preview of the 2009 E-Class.
The CLK Shooting Brake study is rather interesting as it forms a closer relationship between the CLK-Class and the E-Class. According to Auto Motor und Sport, the CLK Shooting Brake and the next-generation E-Class will share the same quad-headlight treatment — now squared off instead of the current car's rounded look — and a similar bold front grille. The current CLK shares its underpinnings with the C-Class. Moreover, the CLK Shooting Brake indicates that the CLK and E-Class could begin sharing the same powertrains, including the upcoming Bluetech hybrid system planned for the E-Class in 2010. Adding more fuel to the fire that Mercedes is considering a closer relationship between the two Classes is the fact that the German automaker recently acquired the rights to the CLE nameplate, which could be affixed to a production version of the CLK Shooting Brake.
