Looking for midsize luxury sedan!

My mom's lease on her '05 Mercedes E500 is up soon, so she's looking for another car. Right now she's leaning toward the 535i, but she asked me for some other suggestions.

Price range is about 40,000-$60,000, preferably a sedan with decent fuel economy for its power (although she rarely drives other people around anyway... I'm trying to convince her to get a coupe or roadster). Please list any pros/cons if possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If she prefers the luxury comfy ride, the Lexus GS might be a good fit as well.

535i would be my first choice.

Try looking at an A6 4.2, or an E350.

You might want to consider the new Jag XF (although I don't like it very much after seeing it/sitting in it.

im on the ship as your mom i need a lux midsize sedan with good fuel economy. i think im getting an A6 3.2 quattro speed isnt everything to me so the 4.2 isnt really needed. im buying it because as i was test driving it i felt that it was really stable and the interior was fantastic but since you are in socal....quattro wouldnt really matter as it does here in PA.

If she's looking for a Luxury sedan, why would you try to persuade her into getting a roadster?? Anyhow, the Lexus ES350 is nice. The GS is good as well but I'm not a fan of the styling. If I had to choose, I would go with either E-class, 5 series or the A6. Given that she has had an E class, either the 5 series or A6 might do it for her.

well she wants another luxury car, but likes sedans cause her past 2 cars have been sedans. however, she never uses all the space that comes with it, so thats why I am trying to convince her to get a smaller car. her only reason for not getting a roadster is because she doesnt like being show-y on the road, so I don't think I'll get very far with the persuasion.

I have a feeling that the ride in the 5 is not as comfortable as an E class, and I'm sure the steering wheel is a little stiffer, correct? How about the A6?

If she wants to feel like she's floating on clouds, then get a Lexus. Seriously, those cars are really comfortable. I'm not sure how the A6 compares to the Lexus.

None of those get good gas mileage.

Yeah I would probably think your mom would enjoy the Lexus. Either ES or the GS. Very comfortable and boring ride.

But if you convince her to get something cooler...maybe she'll let you drive it...

I say Porsche GT2 FTW.

haha I wish, she doesnt like 2 doors either.. Odd. I dont think she likes lexus' styling very much, so I guess its between the 535i and A6.

agreed i own a RX300 and that isnt very cloudy but i test drove a ES350 completely felt like you were driving on a marshmallow highway.

as for the A6 it felt softer than my e90 but you def. know that the car is on the road. You feel most of the bumps and cracks on the road like most european cars except its a little softened a bit

id say in terms of a cloudy ride

1.lexus
2.E class
3. A6
4. 535

Oh yeah, I drove my friend's mom's GS and the ride is unbelievably soft. Everything else was soft too.
