New to forum - introduction
Hello,
New to the forum, new to the BMW brand. Bought X5 xDrive40i 2022 a week ago, still have only 70 miles on it, but plan to travel over New Year time 800 miles. Car is white, has most, but not all options (no lasers in headlights). Inside is black/beige. Coming from lovely Audi Q7 P+ 2017 that was extremely reliable and great joy to drive. Before her was in love with diesel VW Touaregs. Before that - US-domestic brands. Cheers! ![]() |

Thank you for welcoming me to the X5 gang! Still learning about ins-and-outs of this forum. Not sure if picture is a must - it is standard xDrive40i in mineral white color with beige/black interior. Has all options, but not the one with laser lights.
The choice of color and configuration was not mine, but suited my liking OK - it was a vehicle ordered by some guy who then cancelled his order in mid-October and my dealer immediately notified me so I did drop a $1K deposit same day. My 2017 Q7 was coming close to the end of extended warranty (7 years or 70K miles) as I drive about 15K miles annually. I normally try not to keep any German car beyond protective cushion of bumper-to-bumper coverage (though the Q had zero issues in 4.5 years of serving me and $65K miles on it). I was ready for a new Q7, which is very nice vehicle, but nothing could be sourced reasonably quickly with factory installed tow package (which includes transmission coolers and some other things). Best promise was to pre-order new Q7 and get it sometime mid-summer of 2022. Drove off X5 from dealer's lot on December 21st leaving my beloved Orca Black P+ Q7 behind. Was able to get 4% off MSRP as it was my fifth car from this dealership. They did low-ball me on my Q7 $3K-$4K or so, thus overall I was at maybe ~1% off MSRP plus some free gifts, etc. Thought it was a good deal in today's market situation. Reason for switching - besides Q7 ending warranty - my Lady and I don't need many seats (kids are adults now), but we'd rather opt for better cargo storage. The Q7 has wider and longer room behind, but due to absolutely worthless (in our case) third row seats much shallower trunk. Big deal for me was always absence of spare tire as I often go on fishing trips to N. Minnesota and Canadian wilderness regardless of weather, which can be spooky when it is -40F with wind in a middle of nowhere. On long trips I was forced to carry a spare from opposite season set of wheels/tires limiting my baggage capacity. The X5 also came with no OE spare, but it has room for it - I am expecting to get Modern Spare kit in late January or early February. My X5 was ordered initially at the summer's end of 2021. Was a bit abashed to learn it's white - my first white car ever - but remembering how difficult it was to keep clean black, dark grey-blue, black, dark grey, etc. other cars we had before, I did yield. That's the story, may you forgive me the length of it as I was feeling guilty for not replying promptly. On a subject of Q7 vs. X5. There are things I like about X5 better than those of Q7, but there are also things I like better about Q7. The nicety of X5 you know of, so I'll skip it here. Q7 provides noticeably softer and more glued-to-road driving experience. I would guess it is entirely possible that quattro is a better all-wheel-drive then X-drive or whatever it is called in BMW world. It was possible to foot-open Q7 trunk gate regardless of tow package presence. In Q7 infotainment, while navigating, there was a running list of turns/attraction's/convenience stops/etc. - about 5-6 next HWY exits in "depth" while X5 preview pane is primitive and of little usefulness. These are a few things that became apparent in my three weeks of ownership. Love my X5! (especially for its excellent level of interior refinement) Cheers! P.S. I did post X5 picture in my post called: Winter wheels - Audi Q7 wheels perfect fit! Last edited by ConservativeConsumer; 01-14-2022 at 04:35 PM.. Reason: P.S. |
