I feel bad for the people that needed a car to get to work. LOL @ the people that paid these prices out of impatience.

I tried buying a new Miata at several dealers & they all wanted from MSRP to $5k over...on a car that, before pandemic excuse, was always discounted. Also, it's the middle of winter here LOL WTF?! Hard pass.

I saw people getting Frontier leases below $200 per month. Reached out to some local Nissan dealers. Only one was semi-reasonable at $265 a month. The rest were $400+ to almost $1,000 a month LMAO. No thank you

What's wrong with a 9 yr old Toyota Camry ?
Still safe, still economical and not $45k for a new one or 40k for one that came off lease and is 3 yrs old
Sure it's not the latest and or greatest , bit it'll get you and your family safely around town
that 9yo Camry is still going for more than normal market value though.

if im gonna overpay for a car, its not going to be for an old car with less features.

I wonder how many of those that "need" a car really do. Many are adverse with actually repairing the car they already have. Although the supply chain isn't making that option easy either.

Means nothing. Ford always says they are going to penalize dealers when they start charging admin pricing on special models. They always claim there will be penalties and months later the same dealers are still doing the same things. It's more of a "Don't blame us, blame them." washing their hands of responsibility. The reality is that as long as the dealers don't get in the way of Ford shipping out vehicles from there manufacturing plants they don't really care about markups.

either way, still paying an extra 20%. and i guarantee that 2022 camry is going to be in better shape, more fuel efficient, have significantly more features, etc.

Like I said though, if Im going to overpay, regardless of what that total $ amount is, im not going to overpay for an outdated old car.

I'm rather afraid of wrecking a car right now. My wife's 2020 4runner was in a light t-bone accident in mid-November. It took 7 weeks to fix, largely because of COVID backorders. Even though we had rental insurance, we still ending up spending $1000 in rental car charges. I'm more about defensive driving that I ever have been. The body shop we were at looked like a grave yard with so many cars rotting away for weeks and months waiting to get fixed.

On 2/3, her 4runner developed an ABS warning. Toyota thought it was a wheelspeed sensor. Wasn't it and now they think it's an ABS control module. I think they're wrong because others on the 4Runner forums have reported the same issue and the fixes are all different. I think it's an electrical glitch that resets itself over time. Anyway, her 4runner has been at the dealer since 2/3 and they don't think they'll get the part in until sometime in March. That will put the truck out of service for well over 30 days thus is it potentially could be lemon lawed in Kansas. The issue is if they bought the truck back, there are no 4runners to be found and if we found one, we'd pay well over MSRP. When we bought it new, we paid $5K under sticker so the potential price difference could be a whopping $10K since most people are paying $5+K over sticker on new 4runners. We're screwed either way.

I don't know the laws against price gouging but it must be getting close to those levels.

I doubt there are any. The only applicable law is that of Supply and Demand. If you don't like the price, don't buy the product. There's no monopoly at work here. Just find another dealership. If you push Lemon Law, I believe the manufacturer's only responsibility is a buy-back, less your mileage. Instead, just make it Toyota's job to find you a replacement.

*BTW, my dealership will not charge over MSRP. Sorry, we don't sell Toyotas!

Sadly, another dealership will also have a high markup too.

Yea, that's another good point. Total a car? Yay, new car time with what you will likely get for it, right? No yay b/c you just wasted all that extra $ just to get into the other car. Then you might be upside down on the new car when this madness corrects

I was told on the phone by the dealership representative that they do not charge over MSRP. At the dealership, it was another story.

Dealerships basically try to cheat you out of money in so many ways, but if you go and rob a bank, that's a crime, haha.
