Looking for any information on what could potentially cause a roll away.

Vehicle was parked, and it appears to roll (look at the wheels) and not slide.

Looks like it was parked in neutral instead of park.

Or if it was a stick the hand brake wasn't set.

I don't think MT was available for that model. But also, don't the new ATs go into Park automatically if you shut the car off?

Was definitely in park because if it wasn’t it would have immediately rolled, even in neutral.

ky0u is right, when you turn off the car, it automatically goes into park. It even goes into park if you are under a certain speed and you open the driver side door.

Guessing the parking brake was not set?

“Park” is not a substitute for using the parking brake especially on an incline.

BMW did have issues with roll away a few years ago.

The parking brake is always a safe bet,

100% certain that it was in park

I'm 100% certain it was in N, shut off with the brake pedal applied and subsequently applied further or reapplied after the engine was shut off. As the residual brake pressure bled off, away it went as the 35min Auto P position inhibit timer was active. The car wasn't locked when retrieved from the street was it?

It rolled away in less than 35 minutes and it was locked as I had to go back inside and grab my key. Still 100% certain it was in neutral?

Always use the parking brake.. not just the parking gear.

My 530e automatically applies the parking brake on any inclines. But I check anyway.

It still shouldn’t roll though as the transmission parking pawl should hold it.

Yes 100% certain.

If you shut off with the gear selector in N, It does not automatically engage the Parking Gear (Position "P") for up to 35 minutes. This is often referred to as Car Wash mode and is there to allow the vehicle to roll without power. There are a number of audible and visual indicators/warnings given when this is active. Touchless Comfort Access will not lock the doors and if you attempt to lock the vehicle at the handle or with the fob, the horn is sounded twice with each attempt.

Every activation of Gear Selector N - Standby State is logged and retained onboard the vehicle permanently with cloud backup through telematics.

If all the doors were in-fact locked, I can offer only one possible explanation; your Active Digital Key Card was in the car.

Did you meant not in neutral or in Park
