BMW saved this man's life

This is an amazing video. And, this man worked his whole life at IIHS, the institution that enacts driving safety...his work probably helped saved his own life, along with BMW technology:

I read this...great story EXCEPT the other driver who died was in another BMW (228i) but was not wearing a seatbelt.

Good additional information, Tommy.

Couple of things: the other BMW driver decided to make an illegal U-turn on a one way highway, so they were either impaired or out of it.

Also, regardless of the car brand....ya gotta wear your seatbelt.

This!

I can't believe that in this day and age there are still people who don't wear their seatbelt. It's so easy to do, and IT SAVES LIVES!

Thanks for sharing this video.

10 years ago my wife and I were in a horrible accident in my 2003 540i. The experts told us we shouldn't be alive and that the car's design absolutely saved our lives. I'll never forget the insurance guy inspecting the wreckage and he was tearing up. I asked him what was wrong. He said, "I've never seen a crash like this where the passengers survived. Thank you BMW!

Really glad you and your wife were OK, wow.

There are some days where I really miss giving up my 2018 M550 (driving a 2022 M850 Convertible now).

Thank you. We are glad to be here! We were generally positive people before the accident. Now we treat each day as a gift.

Regarding your current car and your last car, I was lucky enough to do BMW M track day at Sonoma Raceway. I got to drive both the M8 Competition and the M5 Competition on the track. Both are amazing cars. If I had your M850, I wouldn't feel like I was missing much. Pretty much perfect!

Oh, I LOVE my M850 - in fact it was at a local BMW driving event that I first got to drive that model convertible and said "Yep - this is going to be my next car".

I only meant that I miss my M550 within a safety context, as the 5 series is currently an IIHS top safety pick. Not sure where my M850 sits on that list.....
