Maybe the Highland when it actually has acoustic glass all around, better seat padding, ambient lighting strip, improved stereo. I’m all about the interior and comfort and Tesla has been lacking in that aspect. I’m glad to see that they are making improvements. At the last electrify expo, their cars just left everyone underwhelmed. There is competition now and they are taking care of their deficiencies.

I believe the Tesla chargers equipped with Magic Dock (i.e. the built-in CCS connector which work with other brands) charge somewhere around $0.51/kw, which I’m assuming is around $0.10 more per kw than for Teslas.

It’s more like 12,000 (of around 17,000 total), so a significant amount.

My current car is a Jaguar which has an amazing 825 watt Meridian sound system and is luxury vehicle quiet. It’s not electric but I cannot hear the engine. All EVs are quiet, but I do not want to hear any other vehicle, either. If the i5 has less soundproofing compared to my Jag, I will be disappointed. Our dealer wants us to do a test drive first, then he will sell our i5 if it doesn’t meet our expectations.

As for the ride quality of a S plaid, I’d say it was rather stiff, from the driver seat, passenger seat and god forbid if you has to sit in the back for more than 15 minutes. I much preferred the ‘comfort’ of the model x plaid. Still stiff, but no where near as harsh as the S, more legroom and headroom in the back seats and easier to get in and out of.

That is HUGE! Not the cars can also be used. How does Tesla gain from this - charging fees I would assume?

Federal government is investing billions into expanding electric charging infrastructure. When every car manufacturer uses your standard, you're locked to get the government funds. The charging fees you mention are also substantial. No licensing fees, which leaves money on the table but makes the deals easier for regulators to swallow.

Some analysts estimate $3B/yr by 2030 from non-Tesla owners and $5B by 2032 (I.e., Piper Sandler).
Supercharging is not cheap. Tesla owners benefit from promotions like free SC for a period of time or over 1,000 - 10,000 miles. Also can get free miles via referrals and cashing in those incentives for more SC miles. I had one year of free SC on my first Tesla and 10,000 miles for my second one. Used 1/3 of those in my first year, mostly during the summer when our home electricity costs were $0.18/kWh. Now that we are back to $0.07/kWh I charge at home. Depends where you live, but once they open up the SC network to Bmw prepare to pay $25-$35 for a “fill up.” |

Sorry, the quote was truncated. A fill up would be 20-90% charge and would depend on range and speed, but I would estimate 220-250 miles at 70-75 mph for a Tesla 3/y, and higher for a BMW - depending on which model. On a model S maybe 325 miles. At 60-65 mph closer to true range less 10%.

Trying to understand this...
Sounds like starting in 2025 all new BMW's will have a seamless solution to access Tesla superchargers (btw I don't think its all of them but a lot of them). But, what about current BMW models? Are they saying they are "working towards" a solution for us or will have a solution for us over the next few months? Anybody have any insight? I know there are a few (and its just a few) magic docks that have opened up a few SC's to non Teslas. But, are we going to have adapters or more magic docs in 2024? |

Depends. If you bought or leased after the drop, it’s great 🤣

As far as charging, most just charge at home with limited use in long drive cases. The ones tbat rely on SC on a daily basis, well thats their own problem thinking an EV was worth it without at home charging access. Lol. |
