Most advertising today uses some form of blatant sex appeal to draw attention.

But when you look at the hands, the sun damage on the d'ecollet'e and chest, the absence of a face makes me cringe.

I think the whole point of the original post was not the use of sex appeal to sell products, but how pathetic it is for someone to have such low self-esteem that they need to show off their nipples at any opportunity. This is multiplied when applied to someone in their 4th or 5th decade of life. This is about the desperate cry for attention, not exploitation by the evil half of our population (men).

I think we're over analyzing the photo. I believe that whoever wanted to sell this gauge, thought it would look more appealing if their significant other were to hold it in front of her bra-less chest. There are a couple more things in the photo to catch the attention of the viewer(s).
