I'll reiterate the other poster. Previous car was an E46 M3, before that an S4 biturbo (tuned). The e92 M3 is no doubt faster (and probably by a lot) and I liked the torque that the E46 severely lacked, but it definitely lost some road feel that the E46 had. The high strung E46 engine was a love/hate thing with me. Certainly liked the newer interior a lot more. Still like the E36 body best (for the time - my first BMW was an E36 328is coupe, but man was that interior awful, esp compared to Audi)
So ... I ended up with an e92 335 instead (with plans from the outset to mod away) |

drove the E46 M3 w/ competition pkge...a bunch of times, fantastic car....still turn my head everytime I see one. Was actually gonna go for one ...a 2006...but then the E92 came out...fell in love...and thats pretty much it. I agree with earlier posts that the E46 had a lot of road feel...and will always be a classic and a legend IMO. I hope one day I can buy one...but for now....E92 all the way...absolute beauty.

Owned 2 E46 M3 now own an E90 M3. The E9x kills the E46 in every category, hands down. Faster, handles better, riders better, sounds better, the only room for debate is over looks. In terms of performance there is no comparison.

on topic - e46 = documented legend, e92 = documenting its legend.
