Hennessey's 1000hp Venom GT (An Exige on steroids)
Start with a Lotus Exige. Add one part 1000hp super-charged LS9, six parts pure insanity:
Supposedly it will come in 750hp, 1000hp and 1200hp versions. http://www.pistonheads.com/news/defa...?storyId=21722 Quote:

As a former Exige owner I find this stupid thing appalling... it really looks like crap and goes against everything that Lotus stands for. Speed via lightweight, this is speed via brute force. How American...

I hope the headlights don't end up like that. Those are exact replica of Lotus Exige. I dont want a 1000hp rebuilt car to look exactly ike the car that it was built on.

Regardless of what the article states, it's based on the Exige. Despite the similar appearance, the only body panels shared between the Elise and Exige are the doors.
Judge for yourself... Elise: Exige:

Proportions look all wrong and what's with the nose? That bridge thing looks stupid as all get out.

More of a variation on a theme really. He took the Exige, which already does "adding lightness" to an incredible extent, and then modified it just enough to accommodate the power and size of the engine. Not sure if I would call that blasphemous; the Esprit weighed in at 3000 lbs IIRC.

I would imagine that the poorly fitting doors and panels are just because this is an early prototype, and not the final product. Lotus knows how to make that stuff so that it fits decently.
I'm not a fan of the builder, but it's hard to deny that this car is going to a holy terror on the race track. The power to weight ratio is out of this world. It's going to take something like a Mosler with a tweaked engine to run with it if the suspension setup is right. |

It's only 2400lbs! What more can you ask for! This is lighter than just about any supercar ever produced with these kind of power levels. Hell the McLaren F1 weight 100lbs more than this. Would you consider that a "brute force" car?! |

My rear deck lid used to pop up randomly while driving and one of the most common problems with the Elise/Exige is that the window does not seal properly (mine had a 1" gap after only 1 week of ownership). Handbuilt cars sound great on paper but are far less charming to own.
