This is one of the better responses in this thread. I've learned that movies are not a first date thing. When you first take someone out you should have an opportunity to get to know her. You can't do that with a movie.

If possible try to do a couple of small things rather than one big thing. For example, instead of just going to dinner and movie, you should take her out for ice cream, ice skating, karaoke like you did, play pool, coffee, checking out a book/game, etc. It will make her feel like she's known you for a while.

Like Elaine said- if she's agreed to go on a date with you that means she's already interested in you. So don't be a jackass and screw things up trying to impress her with stuff. Girls don't like guys that brag about things they've accomplished, women they've dated (good or bad), or too much about themselves. Just ask questions about her (casually and try to make it flow). Don't turn it into an interrogation where you end up asking things like when she usually takes showers and stuff.

For the next date, find out what she likes to do and plan something accordingly. For example, if she's a fan of Broadway then you should take her to go see a Broadway show. G'luck with everything and if you don't get some by the 3rd or so date you should gtfo. (I kid I kid)...
