GM lets you build your own engine for your Corvette

I think this would be pretty cool. Pricey, but cool.

For $5800 more you would at least expect travel to be paid for.

why?? $5800 is probably barely a profit...if at all. The amount of $$$ they're sinking into just the GM *people* surrounding this?

Freaking awesome is what I have to say, way to go GM.

Why is this such a hot thing? Pay and additional $5800 on top of the cost of the car so you can have your name on the assembly placque? Have you seen the assembly process? It is not that interesting.

I guess I would rather spend the $6k on mods or track time.

I am as big of motor head there is. Sorry to say I have no desire to pay $6k to build the motor I am already paying for. That $6k would go along ways to adding an S/C to the car when it arrives. Now that I would get my hands dirty for.

+1
i agree... if this was free, i'd jump on something like this but there's no way i would pay extra to go to the factory to build my own engine.

Pay $5800 so your name can be on the engine instead of some factory worker. So basically you are paying for him to not do work. Its kinda cool to have your name on your engine, but thats a lot of money on top of the money you are spending on the car.

And you will have to find your own flight to Detroit, which isnt all that exciting of a place (I'm from there, I know it isnt). Have the $5800 to include airfare for anyone willing to do this from within the CONUS. It wouldn't cost GM that much at all.
