.....Adam Toledo had a firearm and it was located near his body. Freeze frames of the BWC show it in his hand, but it didn't catch the toss. As Toledo began to raise up his hands, he simultaneously tossed the gun.....but the officer fired a single round. The officer didn't see the toss and the BWC didn't catch the toss. That's how quickly it occurred.

The community won't ask the real questions:
  • Where were his parents?
  • Why is a 13 year old out at 0200?
  • Where/how did he obtain the firearm?
  • What/who was he shooting at that prompted the 911 call and subsequent police response?
  • Why didn't he just comply rather than prompt a foot pursuit?

The media and the community will make this all about race (...which it isn't) while ignoring every component of the circumstances that led up to the police contact.
And around and around it goes. Play safe out there brother.
I swear man, I hope I never kill anybody in the line of duty. I've been close; 4 times last year alone. Every time I feel relieved that the person(s) complied. If I ever end up on the news/on trial, just know that I tried.

Well 95% agree. I think media will not ignore all the social inequalities that contribute to the big mess. I hope they don't use them as excuses for the kid being out with a gun in the middle of the night, etc.
I would be shocked if we see that level of concern and accountability from them.

I think last spring I posted a statistic about how many Blacks killed by police had guns on them.
The % was scary high.

Be polite, be professional....

I was lucky, I was involved in a couple of pursuits that resulted in fatalities and the ensuing investigations. I came very close on a number of occasions but never shot anyone. I'm glad for that but frankly I would also do what I had to to go home at the end of my shift. I have faith in your judgment.

I feel so bad for you guys with all this shit going on. How hard it must be to do your job, listen to your spidey sense but at the same time knowing the scrutiny that will follow. Just be safe. I imagine a lot of good guys will retire.

I watched the video. I agree is was a good shoot, but that doesn't matter to the media and the public. All they know is that a cop shot a kid. The fact that is was justifiable use of force doesn't matter to the media and public.

The unintended consequence of this happens when there is an actual case of police misconduct, the outrage and sympathy for the actual victims will be lost, this all needs to stop or America is going to burn.

We had/have 704 retirements this year. Can you believe it?!? We were projecting 300-ish and were in downright shock that the reality was double the projection. Last year really hurt us.

Hey, I have a pretty funny cop story, but it doesn't involve a dildo.

I became an ocean lifeguard just weeks after turning 15, in June '71. I was 6' tall, about 175, and not ugly. I could get into the bars.
Fire Island in those years was maxed out on sex, drugs, & rock & roll. I had a blond 16 yr old stunner girlfriend by July. She was on the pill!
But since I was living with my fundamentalist Catholic grandparents, I had a 10p curfew.
I didn't want to upset Granny & Gramps & blow a good setup, but one night came home at midnight. Gramps said, "Call the police!" I thought I was done for.
But they had already had called the police at 11p because I wasn't home. This call was to stop the search!
The next morn in the lifeguard shack, the cop we had on weekends said, "Murf, what was that all about?" I said, "Well, they are very strict with me, and see that girl over there in the bikini...?"
The cop said, "Damn, Murf. Don't you have a window you can clime out of?"
My life was so much better after that conversation.

Murf

Can I register my vehicles using my moms address? She’s in a different parish than me. My girlfriend uses her parents address in Mississippi, yet she lives here in New Orleans. Curious on how that works...I actually have several friends down here and in California doing the same thing.

Technically it needs to be registered in the state you reside, but law enforcement really isn't too concerned with where it's registered.......until you have our attention (...e.g...a traffic violation, traffic accident, etc.). People who live in California will register vehicles in the surrounding states to avoid the high/ridiculous vehicle registration fees and save on insurance. In your case, your mother lives in the same state so you're good either way unless insurance companies there view parishes differently.

Less of a police issue than an insurance issue. Insurance on a car registered here in Orleans Parish (New Orleans) is way more expensive than surrounding parishes or states. Have friends doing this as well because they have second homes in Florida, Mississippi or North Carolina so they register cars there which equals lower insurance costs. But if your insurance company discovers you are really residing here but registered elsewhere they could deny coverage. Not uncommon but a gamble...

Hmmm good to know. My best friend lives 6 minutes from me but has Mississippi plates on her car. I know my insurance will go up as soon as I switch so I’m riding my MD plates until they expire.

You can do it but best to have an actual residence where the car is registered. Get in an accident and the insurance company or the other driver’s lawyer digs up that you rent/own here, pay utilities, work here etc but not registered then that’s where the trouble begins.

That DRE life. I just did some SFST's on a friend who needed her tint citation signed. I warned her that she's pretty hammered and she better be careful. I know she drove there, isn't eating and she's female, so she's already at a chemical/physiological disadvantage.

edit: ...and she just sent me a text saying she's driving home....less than 40 minutes after I told her she's hammered. Sigh!
