I remember way back in time the old glass screws in fuses, folks would take them out when they blew and put a penny in the socket and screw it in.

Wasn't there a guy on here a while back wanting to find a really cheap way to run a circuit for his pool heater? This looks like it would do the trick nicely, with no worries about those pesky circuit breakers going off. Of course it takes away the opportunity to get out of the pool and mess w your 220 lines while dripping wet w/chlorinated water....

Trust me...I have seen a lot worse in places like Mexico and South America.

I know in some places with housing like it is...they do what they have to do and it's sad to see.

But when you go in and do a project for a business...and they just don't know any better...it's scary.

Oh...and also having an "Armed" escort with you at all times may have contributed to that feeling.

I don't have the picture handy, but I was on a cruise ship shore excursion to a banana plantation in Jamaica a while back, and there was an ancient PCB-filled transformer on a utility pole right next to a row of banana trees...and it was dripping onto the ground through a tiny rust hole in the bottom of the case! Not just the 3rd world either (well, I guess Florida is sort of the 3rd world). A coworker of mine was telling me that she rented a mini-suit near Disneyworld; a nice modern (looking) high end rental. She was shocked to find that the 4-burner countertop range was powered via its feed line being electrical taped to a basic lamp-cord extension cord end that was plugged into the outlet for the insinkerator. Her partner is an electrical contractor, so it was a total no-go for them (wondering what horrors were hidden in the walls), but the management was doing the 'what's the big deal - were you going to make thanksgiving dinner or something?'
