Don't know about that. But no X3's are made in Germany anyway. Right now all the G45's are made in Spartanburg, SC. Rosslyn (South Africa) will ramp up their G45 production soon too, but it hasn't happened yet. And all G45 M50's will be made only in SC even after Rosslyn ramps up.

That is correct. All West Coast Spartanburg vehicles go by train and take two to four weeks for delivery. The rest go by truck.

Somebody on this thread did report that QC took 2.5 weeks. I think it's just part of their production process. Verify, validate, test, etc. I see it as a good thing.

Mine went from assembly started to QC to awaiting carrier assignment yesterday. Seemed to only be in QC for a couple hours.

That is the normal time spent in QC. Depending on what part they are waiting on QC can take awhile.

There should be zero concern for why a vehicle is stuck in QC. Remember, the factory operate using JIT so there is no inventory of parts. Let's say they noticed a scratched trim piece. It may take a week to order one and have shipped.

Mine had a build date of 9/11. Mine ha been in quality check since then. My dealer said this is normal if they are waiting on parts. I’m thinking it may be the trailer hitch.

Just spoke to somebody at Genius. They said Spartanburg has been backed up lately. They're affected by the severe weather and haven't been able to get cars out quickly enough. They said production will catch-up any day now.

That happens all of the time. Except for asking what a production week is, Genius can’t be counted on to give accurate information. Even that needs to be verified at times. They will say anything to end the phone call. Just the other day we had a member call and ask when his vehicle was scheduled to be at his dealer. The response was as soon as it clears Customs. He lives in Virginia and his vehicle was an X5. Genius is the title of the position and in no way reflects the people answering the phone or the information they give out.

So I went to see the car in person. Overall, I like it. The things I don't:
Small glove box The plastic door handles The mismatched kidney grilles Lack of rear legroom Thick A pillars may cause a blind spot However, the seats are comfy. I actually like the dash with the stitching as well as the seats. The shift lever is fine. I like the curved screen. The 285 tires out back are aggressive. I dig these wheels. Even though it doesn't open, the sunroof is nice. There is not a ton of cheap plastics (no worse than any other brand in this range) like some have said, BUT those door handles REALLY should have been metal IMO. Overall, it looks much better in person. I'm taking my wife up to see it tomorrow, and she'll make the final decision if she wants it or not. |
