Nice one. Egrets are tough with those pure white feathers that are easy to blow out.

Well I should certainly stay out of camera stores

I got an email from our local joint here in the east bay (Looking Glass Photo in Berkeley) that they had received the new Tamron 150-600. I swore I wasn't going to early adopt this one, but it wouldn't hurt to look right?

So I'm about a grand lighter in the wallet this afternoon, but so far it seems OK. It is not a 500 f4, obviously, but I think it is at least as good as my 100-400. I'm going to head out to the NWR's tomorrow with it on my 5D3 and see what it can do. Just playing around this afternoon though, the only subjects I could find were a couple of commuter trains.

Wow, looks pretty nice, Ed. I'm tempted, but I'm not convinced it's got enough of an IQ advantage over my 400 56 + 1.4x TC III to make it worth the outlay. I understand the Tamron is actually ~580mm at the long end and my Canon combo gives me 560mm. So no real reach gain and only 2/3 stop. Although there is the image stabilization (or whatever Tamron calls it). I'm thinking the IS feature will make it a good airshow lens for getting nice shots with prop blur.

It's 4.3 lbs. You can read Roger from Lensrentals quick overview and test results here:

http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2014...ezoom-shootout

I hear you Mark, it was a question I had as well, but then I figured I could also use it on my 7D with no TC and also I get use of all the autofocus points, although not at lightning speed. For airshows, car races, and the Zoo, I think it would be perfect. If it doesn't pan out for me, it can always go up on Craigslist.

Wow, very light and inexpensive. Hopefully it'll prove reliable. Looks like the top of the heap for this class of lens. 600mm beats the hell out of 400mm.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it. Read that review earlier today and it didn't sound bad!

Very good image if you didn't process it much. Do you get all your stuff at LG?
I was good and only took a few pictures of girls in Bikinis. Sunset beach on the North Shore.

Yes Dave it is. This was on the 9th the only day the swells were up, all the other days were near flat. They should see huge swells today but alas, I came back to the cold.

The North Shore is fantastic in January. There are still world class surfers there and the waves can be fantastic. Also, room rates are lower and you can walk right up to sites like the Pipeline.

Considering that of all the islands, HDOT doesn't mark things well on Oahu. I was lucky to find it at all. When at Sunset, I had to ask the lifeguard, "What beach is this?" and "Where is Pipeline?". I didn't know they had hotels on the North Shore.

We stayed at Turtle Bay, right at the Northern tip, just a few miles past the Pipeline. I had a lanai that's usually several hundred per night and it dropped to under $300 per night.

@ Sunset beach seal # L37 I believe. This one had just finished scratching its nose by diving head first into the sand.
