Concur!
They've never been able to compete for a mortgage, and have only occasionally been decent for auto loans. That said, I love them for banking and insurance.

AAA is more of a roadside and travel assistance business. They also have tune up shops in some locales. USAA is more of a credit union/banking institution. They sell insurance of all types, provide brokerage services, car buying and selling service among other things.

Did not realize USAA was so sought after. I guess I'll tote around my USAA key chain at the bars to get laid.

AAA also sells insurance, has banking services, sells extended auto warranties, has auto buying services and provides travel discounts / services, among other things.

I stand corrected then. But that's not how they market themselves. I have never received information on additional services, just roadside and travel services. And I was notified they opened a service shop nearby when I lived in NC.

Back in the day USAA had various rate tiers of insurance. Officers and family members were in separate tiers. Then once enlisted personnel were allowed USAA created another rate tier.

Actually, I just checked on AAA banking and financial services. These are more partnerships with Discover Bank than offering their own banking and financial services. I am not sure how they do insurance. So technically yes they may offer similar services USAA does but they are really a go between to the actual banking institution it appears. USAA is its own banking and insurance institution.

They tried to screw me in an accident claim, saying that I contributed to it. I did not. I have Progressive Insurance.

Went to arbitration and I won hands down. The other party was an off duty cop and the local police falsified the police report to side with him (they didn't even witness the accident).

Yeah, that's my experience with USAA and a lot of lost trust.

Sounds like USAA were simply going off the police report? I suspect they weren't deliberately trying to screw over a customer of another company... How'd you get involved with arbitration, by the way? My approach would have been to file a claim through Progressive, then let Progressive worry about going after the other party. Also, what evidence were you able to bring to get the arbitration decided in your favor? Just curious, as police reports seem to be taken as gospel in many situations.

It was all through insurance. So to be clear, my insurance company won arbitration "for me".

I also think USAA was going off the police report, and my statement (perhaps they saw flaws in it). They also asked me during my statement if I had seen the police report, and I had not at the time.

To this day, I still have no clue what evidence Progressive presented during arbitration. I just know for sure I was not at fault and had complete right of way. I actually also had no idea what was in the police report until well after the accident. My insurance company "highly recommended" that I obtain a copy of it, and boy was I pissed after I read it! Yes, I feel ultra lucky from that situation. I thought I was one and done for something not my fault. Worst feeling in the world!

But, USAA had their customer's back, 100% until the end. So I commend them for trying.

Got it, thanks for the additional details. Makes me wonder if the arbitrators had encountered such situations before. Glad it worked out for you!

(Full disclosure - I'm a current and happy USAA customer. I use them for banking and insurance, and finance the 328i with them for 1.6%. Mortgage is through local credit union, however - I've never found USAA to be especially competitive on fees and APR for mortgages.)

One other thing. USAA doesn't give multi-line discounts but you do sometimes get a check in the mail as a reimbursement at the end of the year.

I have had USAA for my whole driving life. They used to be untouchable with rates. Insurance agents would ask to give me a quote until they found out I was with USAA and they would say, "Oh, never mind, you are covered". They are still the best price for me. My father was in the Air Force, I have never severed.
