A 2015 Molly Hatched there was no Danny Joe Brown or Duane Roland, both had been passed for 10 years. In their early years I believe vocals and instrumentation was quite good.

I to liked Genesis in concert. I read Phil Collins could really intimidate a second drummer, he demanded a lot but the results were very high quality.

I'm showing my age and maybe (even more the style of music I like) but the best concert I ever saw was Depeche Mode's Devotional Tour in the early '90's.

I have been a fan since the very early '80's and they hadn't toured down here previously so it was almost spiritual for me. Saw them the second time they came down here and it was equally as good.

Other highlights; Erasure at The Metro which holds maybe a couple of hundred people, Pet Shop Boys, Devo (seen them a few times), Midge Ure was exceptional, Dire Straits way back when.

I saw Heart back in the '70s when they were an opening act. When they came on stage, people were wandering around trying to find their seats and not really paying attention. Then, Ann Wilson sang her first note and Nancy Wilson started showing her guitar skills. I've never seen anything like what happened next. The audience just froze in place and stared at the stage in shock. The only things that moved were each person's jaw hitting the ground. The audience, including my wife and me were instance fans. Since then, we've seen Heart 4 or 5 times over the years. Always great. In May, we are seeing Ann Wilson live in Napa, CA. I can't wait.

By the way, I can't remember the main act the night we saw Heart the first time.

This is a cool thread

Im from South Africa, and we dont have access to most of the bands ive seen you all speak of, but:

BAD: The Rasmus

Good: Bryan Adams, Rammstein, Linkin Park, 30 Seconds to Mars

Great: Nickelback (I know alot of people cant stand them, but i enjoy their music), Metallica, Bon Jovi, Deep Purple, Juriah Heep, The Eagles.

I really hope some more make their way to South Africa after this Covid BS dies out, as id love to see Def Leppard as they one of my favorites.

Yeah, these north americans don't realize how how good they've got it, tour wise.
My very first live concert and still the best, Motley Crue on the Dr. Feelgood tour. In the 90's we had a great many heavy bands tour Australia. Slayer, Ozzy, Sepultura, Skid Row, Anthrax (w/Joey), Alice In Chains, Suicidal Tendencies, Metallica, Carcass and Judas Priest (w/Ripper, I haven't seen them with Rob). I loved them all.
In more recent years we have had shows by Overkill, Exodus, Dream Theater x2, Anthrax (w/John & Joey again ), Ace Frehley and Halestorm x2. Again, I've loved them all.
The only show that I have walked away disappointed from was Motley Crue
on the Carnival Of Sins tour. Mick Mars couldn't move, Vince Neil couldn't sing, the whole show was a parody of itself. But unlike Spinal Tap, it wasn't funny.

GOOD - Andrew WK, 930 Club, Washington DC. 2002ish. Possibly the best show I've ever been to.

BAD - I was in a post-punk band in the early 90s that played a lot of gigs in and around the city. I saw some bands play that had literally only been playing instruments for a month.... Big name? Willie Nelson, sometime around 2003. Pretty sure he was hammered (he sounded hammered).

Willie was probably stoned out of his head. Speaking of country singers, anyone remember Freddie Fender? I was a cop in his hometown in Texas. Put him in jail once for very Public Intoxication.

Bad, Judas Priest last night (4/-4/2022) in Lowell MA, Canceled 1-2 hours before the start due to non covid illness. We found out via text at a bar. And this was a reschedule from 10/31/2022.

I have not been to many for better or worse. Aussie band You Am I (think The Who) were spectacular in their prime at small sydney venues, enjoyed them the most.

I have not been to ad shows so to speak but certainly found Rage Against The Machine and Pearl Jam underwhelming. Alice in Chains were good but at the risk of sounding like an old man, the show was so incredibly loud, just ear splittingly loud, i couldn't enjoy it. I shouldn't need ear plugs well behind the mosh pit, it was insane how loud it was.

Unfortunately I had one of the worst stomachaches ever and spent all of the concert in pain, and a fair amount of the time walking around the Peabody Opera House alone.

Still the best concert I've ever attended.

Great thread!!!

Bad, only 2 that I can think of that were really just plain bad. Joe Walsh at the Santa Barbara County bowl '87ish. He was so friggin drunk, was a babbling mess. Mid 90's we took our young sons to see Rugrats Live. My gawd, awful wretched sound system, and Angelica's voice. Wicked bad combo…

Good, SOOO many good ones. Scorpions, U2, Van Halen, Fleetwood Mac, Phil Collins, Pink Floyd, Journey, Def Leopard, Zack Wylde, Matt "guitar" Murphy, Stanley Jordan, Peter Paul and Mary, Poison, Boston, Deep Purple, Nugent, Sammy Hagar in all his different bands, Puddle of Mudd, and many more…

Two of the best shows I have seen lately were just recently. Innings Festival in Tempe- went to see Billy Strings and Foo Fighters, little did any of us know what was coming for them…

A couple weeks ago I caught Blackberry Smoke. Such a tight band. I showed up early and caught the whole thing on the rail, made me feel like it was 1983 again!!!

Edit: Heading to Santa Barbara on Sunday to see Billy Strings again. First visit to the SB Bowl since the Joe Walsh debacle. Stoked!

Bad - this one local concert where a speaker blew up extremely loudly and I got tinnitus.

The worst: Bruce Springsteen at the Harley Davidson 105th Anniversary in Milwaukee. Played only new crap and no hits. What made this even worse is I chose BS over the Foo Fighters that were playing the same night and time downtown at the summer-fest grounds. To this day.....

One of the best: I know this is a tribute band but I went to 'Get The Led Out' at the Ames theatre in Burnsville Minnesota. Great small venue and while it wasn't LZ, they are mighty good at playing their catalog. Live and loud! Even played 'Moby Dick'. This is as close as I will ever come to live LZ. Given the chance, I will see them again.

One of my faves, I would love to see them live!

Not sure I'd survive the pit at my age but it would be a blast in there!

Worst: The Cars. love their records but so much studio work they couldn't do it live. Dead and Company. Like the GD but this show last 2 1/2 hours and they may have played 7 songs, just one long John Mayer guitar jam... guess I didn't have the right buzz going!

Best: Several U2 shows, Bruce Springsteen July 4th 1985 at Wembley stadium in London, Bruce Springsteen at JazzFest April 2006 right after Katrina, brought me to tears. REM at the Bayou just off LSU's campus back in the 80's. Van Halen back in the 80's with David Lee Roth. Pearl Jam, Ministry, damn, so many...

Saw Zoso at The Georgia Theatre and that was an absolute hoot. The hair, clothes, the works. I swear it was better than the real Led Zeppelin because they weren’t obliterated.

Roger Waters was a good show. Highly political with a lot of folks walking out, but what did you expect? Closest I’ve come to seeing the full Pink Floyd.

Eric Clapton with Derek Trucks opening was killer.

A girl dragged me to some emo band garbage at The Masquerade. No wins personally or auditory.

Bad/disappointing - Eagles:
This was I believe the Long Run tour. They just stood on stage and it sounded just like an album. No variation and nobody having any fun on stage. I should correct that and say the Joe Walsh started having fun and Frey gave him a nasty ass look, so he just stood there the rest of the night.

Most Surprising - Fleetwood Mac:
I was aware of their hits from FM & Rumours but had no idea how much they could rock. Lindsey was an absolute madman on stage and they simply blew me away at how great of a live band they were.

The best is much more difficult as I went to a ton of concerts, including many of the Bill Graham Day on the Greens where you would have multiple headline capable acts.

But the best probably had to be the 1970 Big Sur Folk Festival. My mom was a big fan of an eventually became a casual friend of Joan Baez. I can't remember if the first one we went to was in 1966 or 67 but we attended every one from then until the last one in 1971.
