Super early thoughts:
  • I like the exterior. Sorry folks. I also like the G01, so not throwing shade, but I think the G45 is a natural evolution and the earlier models are going to look dated. The M50 looks better than the standard X3. The car looks great in both BGM and the new Dune Grey, which my dealer also had when I picked up mine.
  • My opinion on the interior is complicated. It isn't universally bad. In fact, if you accept the minimalism thing, it is mostly okay. But some parts of it are abysmally awful. Like criminal. I'm looking at the doors and the door handles and the incredibly cheap plastic where the door controls are. The seat memory buttons feel like a shitty kid's toy. I wouldn't be surprised if this is fixed by 2026 MY.
  • The M Alcantara interior is nicer in person than it looks in videos. I like it and am glad I got it. The non-woven dash is also nice.
  • There is a spare tire under the trunk liner
  • The car drives incredibly well. Feels poised and planted, engine has gobs of power, it is a proper BMW.
  • The "modes" are kind of silly and it won't let me automatically start in Sport mode.

tl;dr I like the exterior, the interior is mixed, the drivetrain & suspension are great. More later.
I got mine today as well. Love everything about it so far but am confused about “my modes”. I don’t understand personal mode and why you can’t configure anything. Seems to be the only option for personal mode is selecting one of the other modes to start up in (minus sport mode). I feel like there’s something missing there.

Picked up my wife's Brooklyn Grey M50. Super smooth drivetrain. Love the car, hate the cheap bits but overall love the car.

Same confusion here. I don't get the modes at all.

And the only way to configure engine settings is in Sport mode?

But engaging Sport mode doesn't put the engine in S?

Yes, spare tire under the trunk liner, at least on the US. Confirm on my car.

The fix-a-flat kit is a no-cost option and results in spare tire delete.

Oh Ok, Thx for confirming. I thought fix a flat is a no cost option and have to explicitly tick the 0 cost option box get it but looks like spare tire is standard - good to know

Congratulations!

Can you confirm some of the following points?

1. Does it have Comfort access on rear doors?

2. Does it have ambient lights on rear doors / door pockets

3. What’s the material of the door handles and buttons?

4. What’s that material of the footrest and trunk scuff plates?

Thank you!

Congratulations! I love the G45’s steering wheel so damn much! No to throw shades either, but I still think Brooklyn Gey looks slightly better on G01 😣

I just stopped into my dealer this evening and was talking to my SA about the new X3. He said they sold out their entire Sept allotment with customer orders without having one on the floor to be looked at in person. Oct so far is showing the same pace, but they do have a stock vehicle for people to look at.

Now my impression, I like the exterior looks and it looks far better in person than the pics ( Vegas Red looks really good ). 21" 1037M wheels are 🔥

As for the interior. It's a definite change from the outgoing model. I saw that woven textile dash abomination and almost 🤮. Yeah, no thanks.

Seats are comfy, Veganza looks fine and I'm sure will wear well. Lots of headroom and legroom. ( I'm 6' 4" and sit relatively upright and had my seat moved ahead quite a bit).

The interior looks a bit "techy" and yes a lot of plastic material. You can't get all the fancy trim options like before. I do like the layout of the screen, but I'm undecided on the rest of the cockpit.

Side note, I got an i4 M50 loaner. What a hoot to drive ( minus the visceral engine sound )!

I'd definitely buy a new X3.

Not sure what else these come with. Did I win or lose the tire lottery?
My understanding that’s a pretty good tire

If I had to choose, I’d run the Michelin pilot sport all season 4 but I have no doubt those are great tires that came with your car

Some guy on reddit wrote a fantastic list about why this cars interior is cheaper.

Lack of ambient lighting on rear vs front
plastic door handles not metal
dash in hard plastic vs soft plastic (lower part)
no leatherette on seatbelt post cover vs plastic now

He had like 10 things, these are from memory and the takeway was pretty brutal. Like sure, we can debate about taste and styling, but quality ..

my take away is I hope that BMW who is struggling to compete with chinese names at least saved money on materials in the cabin and didnt skimp on the drivetrain components where it matters, so car is better to drive etc. Because if the savings inside are also same as on the drivetrain components it is very sad times.

Design wise I saw on Autogefuhl presentation video - and thoguht it looked good. Especially with chrome trim.

I always pause for reflection when a car manufacturer cuts cost so drastically in the areas the users regularly come into contact with, or sees virtually all of the time, so it’s in your face.

To me this is an action of last resort by the manufacturer, and makes me wonder what cost cutting it did in the areas we can’t see, or why it made certain decisions, like the cost of making the side vents electronic with capacitive sliders and motors etc. rather than an elegant manual solution ????

Having been in an M50 it was a big disappointment, and I’m actively looking at alternatives.

A so called luxury brand should not be “cheeping out”. As for the things we can’t see there have been a lot of BMW cars getting recalls lately.
