No, I never saw or drove one before picking it up (and I see everything). But – it's a BMW. Drives like one. If you're on the fence, rest assured it's another great X3 overall.

Is the driving dynamics and handling an improvement over last generation? That would be likely since BMW is making big forward strides in mechanical and controls engineerings, and taking sideways steps in design.

I saw a Vegas Red X3 M50 with the Amber Extended Marino leather and the black 21" 1037M wheels and it looked amazing.

The interior had some definite pluses and minuses ( that optional woven textile dash is &#129326 but overall I thought the interior looked good.

Can someone enlighten me and tell me what BMW M is leaving to real M cars as design cues and unique features? First the double slat kidney grilles, then the mirror caps, now the quad pipes too? At this point now you can’t tell between the M lites versus the real M cars.

M cars are not suvs and have much more under the skin

As said, much of the “M” stuff used on non full M models is cosmetic. A relatively cheap marketing trick, but under the skin there are lots of differences.

As an example the G01 X3 M40i has many different components, including a different engine, seats, suspension, bracing, active diff, wheels/tyres, brakes, programming etc to the F97 X3 M.

So the cosmetic M stuff is just that, window dressing used by BMW often to placate deficiencies in other areas of a car.
