Exactly. -- Let's wait. I think I'll wait. Next year. Oops, your dead.

Completely get the philosophy. The unit I saw represents being close to launch-ready in terms of assembly (subjective aesthetics aside). I just prefer and enjoy them more “fully baked”, but this is not unheard of for first year early build vehicle programs.

True story. There’s always something new coming and everyone hopes it gets better. Odds are BMW is going to continue to cut costs where they can.

To understand where BMW will go, look to the electric cars as they seem to be the design drivers. Having an old fashion BMW, with working knobs and buttons will probably be phased out. My biggest concern is that if you look at the dodge chargers that the 2025 version really is moving away from base and when the old boys start to move away from traditional it is the sign of the times.

I must admit, they do a good job of using generated exhaust noise which is extremely loud outside of the car but to a point it is very loud even for a dodge.

I do think this thread is blending two different kinds of "waiting". There are those who always want to wait for something better or the next best thing and maybe then become "first on the block". They have a different set of motivations than I was sharing.

The kind of waiting I was referencing was the general idea of avoiding first year production of any brand/model, especially the first few months simply due to the almost-inevitable issues that will arise. If I was on the team for this program, as with those at my prior OEM company, I would see those rear doors as a line-stop and I'd have the line operators and moulding supplier in "yesterday" for a quality review. I have no idea what happened with that airflow/door lock switch assembly loosely attached to the door trim panel, but that cannot continue, IMHO.

Things happen when transitioning from pilot to volume production and I just don't wish to own one of those in my garage. Others may find them of no consequence; perhaps I am overly focused on these issues due to my work history. The second year of any program usually brings the greatest degree of year-over-year improvement. To me, that standard practice is always worth the wait. Having said all that, sincerely wish the best for those who have 2025 models.

There has been a lot of criticism of the interior, I would expect changes for the LCI but that’s two or three years away. Autogefuhl posted a good review today and specifically mentioned he had goven BMW feedback on the interior. At the least I would expect something like a galvanic controls option, which is $100 on the 3 series. His review also comments the interior is loud, a direct result of no acoustic glass I expect. Something that could also become an option. Other poor design choices, like lack of physical controls for the drive modes, doubt that ever changes. Whether it’s worth waiting to see is unclear, personally I want to see what the new 3 series brings in 2026 as they have time to rectify some of the choices made on the X3 that have been poorly received.

Has no affect on BMW. They already use a button/physical control for all of the required functions.

Once burned, twice shy. I eschew first model year vehicles.
