You write about people not liking Macbooks only because they don't know shit about them, and then you show you don't know shit about Windows PC's. A lot has changed since Vistagate. 7 is no joke. |

ASUS FTMFW!!! I've been using ASUS products for 10 years? I've never had a single problem with them and I'm rough on computers. Whether its physically rough on Laptops (Mine saw 2 deployments) or over clocking ASUS mother boards, or high intensity long duration graphics on their screens, it's all been flawless.
Check any ASUS laptop out on here. I custom build Desktops so I kind of know my shit. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220696 Just find one in your price range and buy it. You can't beat an ASUS. I personally use a ASUS G50-VT (Gaming laptop) and after 2 years of abuse it still kicks ass. |

My problem with Macs is that they aren't easily upgradable or fixable. I have had two Mac Book Pros and both of them shit out on me and cost a ton to fix them. My roommate in college his Mac Book Pro shit out on him after a couple of months. My brothers died on him... I just won't spend that much money on something that isn't that great to begin with. The flexibility of a Windows based machine is superb. I can do whatever the fuck I want with my Machines and not have to worry about extension errors or the lack of hardware support or drivers... |

A macbook is sufficient for what you described, the Pro is nice but pricier. You can find NEW macbooks on ebay for under $900. You want to max out the RAM with an upgrade from the interwebs. Try dealnews dot com for a price watcher site.
OR you can buy new off craigslist and avoid the shipping/handling altogether. Just be sure it's a new, sealed item. as for the mac vs windoze debate, i use the company-furnished Dell at work, but I spent my own cash on a macbook with Parallels to run OSX and XP at full speed at home. luck, RC. |

I question that. The highest employee discount you can get at an Apple Store is 25%.

but that's the point I do and I converted cuz of vista and never going back...used to build my own pc's back in the days for gaming and they were fun, functional and cheap to build. Then vista came along and fudge it all up. Don't really care how awesome 7 is...I'm not going back to constant updates and security risks.

Honestly, a decent netbook is probably adequate enough for what you're going to use it for. I have a Macbook (now given to my mother), and I primary use my iMac.
For my graduate classes, I need a PC to do Powerpoint presentations and be able to hook it up to the school's system. I spent $500 on a HP laptop and it's been more than enough. When school is in session, I use it non-stop. I write 20-100 pg papers through out the semester. And I browse the web on my breaks. The only thing I don't do is download songs like I do on the Mac. |
