We did the BMW ultimate drive event recently, here in DC metro and they pitched the XC90 V8 Sport against the E70 X5 4.8, ML500 and the GX470.
I must say I really like the XC90 a lot. I ranked it second after the X5 and way ahead of the W164 ML500 and the outclassed GX470. I thought the Yamaha V8 in the XC90 was more sonorous than the X5s. The car felt solid and confidence inspiring in the tight turns save for the tendency to understeer and a little torque steer. For some reason I thought the XC90 was better screwed together than the X5.

MB R350 is Out! GL450...maybe???
Well, my wife and I test drove a couple of MB SUVs today...the R350 and the GL450.
Let's just say that although it's very roomy inside, the R350 drove like a floaty Buick POS!!! The R350 has horrible blind spots, it drives like crap (floats around like a boat), the brakes aren't that great, it handles like crap and was rough over bumps, it's got very little headroom (my wife is 5'6" and I'm 5'8" tall...and I almost hit the headliner in the back seat) and it does absolutely nothing when you step on the gas (other than whine like a red-headed step-child). I was also not impressed with the lack of quality in that large, ugly minivan/station wagon looking boat. Even my wife agreed that the MB R350 isn't even in the same class as the BMW X5 3.0 as far as driving characteristics are concerned. She just really likes how much more space it has compared with the other SUVs. Anyway, needless to say...the R350 is out for us (and we're not even considering the V8-powered R500). Then, we test drove the MB GL450...much more power, decent cargo space (although not quite as much as the R350), more upscale look and feel, and better driving characteristics (handled better, smoother over bumps, and with the 335HP V8, it was much more powerful). The only problems with this SUV are similar blind spots as the R350, it has the same ridiculous, non-intuitive short transmission gear stalk behind the steering wheel ..what's that about? , and the high price (fairly loaded with similar options as the X5...it's ~ $69k with a discount off of the $71k MSRP...yikes ). Anyway, we're going to get some numbers from the Fleet Mgr. on an '08 GL450 -- 36-mo./12k mi./yr. lease (MF for the '08 GL450 is ~ 0.0021 - 0.0024), but I have a feeling it's going to be ~ $1,000+/mo. compared with a similarly equipped '08 X5 at ~ $750/mo. So, now we're most likely down to an '08 X5 or an '08 Acura MDX...the two "smaller" SUVs of our choices...but the two that drive so much better than the overpriced and much overrated MB SUVs. I really don't like MB. I think if the '08 BMW X5 gets the N54 F/I tt engine, that will seal the deal...for me anyway ; even if it stays with a 3.0 N/A engine, my wife doesn't care and she may opt for the X5 anyway.

We're looking at a few SUVs with 3 rows of seats; the MB ML350 only has 2 rows of seats, like the Lexus RX350 and Infiniti FX35/45.

i would love a xc90 sport, i miss my 2003 xc90 T6, almost traded my 330 for a sport. but i got a V8 4runner for a good price but some dumb ass ran a red light and hit it it got fixed but now its a POS. so i thinking about a XC90 sport (i i robbed a bank) or a used V70R.
the xc90 is the best over anything in its class
