In my experience, the acceleration advantage of the 335i is minimized in rolling conditions. Once out of first gear, the G37 can stay in the upper part of it's power band (track conditions), that gap isn't there.

The caveat being that the G37 has a much narrower power band to work with and would require a better driver to take full advantage of it.

Ok, this is new to me. I wasn't aware that the NAV in the 335i came w/ real-time traffic info at no extra charge. I was also under the assumption that the real-time in the G37 (..from my recent test drive) was a no-cost option. If what you say is true, then that is one less thing that the Infiniti has over the BMW.

That is correct. The Nav-traffic is included in the XM subscription, which is a cost option after the first 3 months.

It is displayed as a color-coded segment superimposed over the roadways (green/yellow/red). I haven't driven an i-drive equipped e92, how is the traffic displayed on it?

yea thats true, its not like bmw has always geared their cars for high speed while most japanese automakers gear theirs for lower speeds or anything

335i is really a lot of car for the price. It is a car for an enthusiast who places the driving expirence above all else. G37 is also a lot of car for the cost; however, it is targeted at a different type of enthusiast. Possibly one who is more frugal and who enjoys all the little toys that G37 comes with.

That being said, it is sad to see that 335i owners have to flame an inferior performing car. What is this some kind of insecurity?

How does G37 match up to a 328 in the speed department?

Overall, the G37 is geared slightly shorter which is compensated for by the higher redline.

Do you have the torque multiplication and shift point diagrams to turn that generalization into a relevant point for these two cars?

This is a product of car forums (...or forums in general), not 335i owners specifically. You will find the exact same flame wars on Ford, Nissan, Mitsu, etc. forums. Hell, you even find such flame wars on martial arts forums and law enforcement forums. It's expected!

As long as there is still respect for the other car/car makers....its all good....

What bothered me about the G37 and their drivers is that they were so cocky in the begining...thinking that the G37 will beat the 335 blah blah blah...
Sure, 335 owners can and will be cocky, but thats because 335 is simply the best car in its class (statement that comes from owners as well as many car magazines experts). PERIOD!

The 335i is 4.055, 2.396, 1.582, 1.192, 1, .872, FD 3.08, and 7000 redline, correct?

As for dyno charts, I haven't taken mine in yet, but you can use automobile mags dyno, or this forged performance one (corrected by 1.1 or 1.11) as a conservative estimate.

Just thought I'd share, and btw -- I used to drive two Infiniti's (a modded and loaded '04 G35 and a loaded '03 FX35) and I DO think they're great cars for the $$...I almost got another G35, until I drove the 335i that is.

Couldnt agree more with you on this. I had a New G35 sedan this past weekend as a loaner car and it was great! ... it felt faster then my E90 335i ... but I know its not. For the $$ they are great cars ... but not a good looking as the BMWs IMO.

That's funny.....

...because the G37/G35 doesn't even feel faster than my E90 330i, so I doubt that it feels faster than an E90 335i.

I only have driven my car for a week in Germany ... but its because the BMW is smooth in power delivery and the car is so smooth and sold to drive where as the G35 you just feel the acceleration more. ... I know its not faster.

It's the smoothness of the BMW that adds to that "faster" feeling. The roughness of the G cars may be the culprit in its diluted go-fast feeling.

I have a feeling that once you drive your car again, you'll quickly realize that the 335i feels faster, and is faster, than the G37.

I enjoyed reading all the posts from today; had a long day at work.

Bottom line is the Infiniti G35/37 are great cars for less $$ than the BMW 335i, but they do not match the performance and driving feel of the BMW 335i.

When comparing the driving experience of an Infiniti G35 and a BMW 335i in Oct., '06, my choice was clear and easy.

With that said, if I had to choose between an Infiniti G35/G37 and a N/A BMW 328i (not the F/I tt 335i), I'd choose the Infiniti.

Seriously, I would still like to see those plots if you can make them. It looks to me like the G37 is geared slightly shorter in general, but no gearing advantage to either car at highway speeds.
