doesnt matter how shes drives. your reasoning is that the car is yours and you don't feel comfortable letting other people drive. my parents, sisters, and friends have never driven my car and its going to stay that way.

The best thing is you should tell her that because you didn't have the guts to tell her up front you are a sexist idiot, you decided to ask some unknown people on the web what they thought about you lending her the car.
Seriously man, WTF! Do you need someone to hold your hand when crossing the street? PS: I need a pick of this gf. I want to know what she looks like. |

If you cant trust her with a CAR lose her. There are plenty or girls you should be able to trust with someting as insignificant as a car. I let my wife drive my car anytime she wants and I also let her drive my cars when she was my GF. She is actually a very good driver and she drives stick well because I taught her how. In fact she will not even drive an automatic anymore. Either way I would lend it to her and if your worried about it and cant trust her then LOSE HER.

You called him a sexist idiot and all you want is pics of her???? That is so funny to me. Why would it matter how she looks? Should someone be treated differently because they look better than another person? What does this have to do with anything?

she can look hot or not.. it's not because she's a girl that makes a difference if you lend the car or not. It's his/her ability to drive responsibly. |

Eh, this isn't as black and white as all of you seem to make it. First of all, if she would leave you because you won't let her drive your car (as some here have implied) then let her. She's not worth it. If borrowing your car (or showing it off to her friends) matters more to her than being with you, she's probably not someone you want to be with.
I've seen the following question multiple times in this thread: "What's more important to you? Your car or your relationship?" Allow me to turn that around: What's more important to her? His car or their relationship? If you are uncomfortable with it, tell her you're not comfortable with her driving your car and tell her why. Be straight up about it. I'm going to assume you are not, in fact, sexist and that what you actually said is that your girlfriend (in particular) does not pay attention to potholes, etc. such that she (in particular) would not baby your car as you do. Tell her that. If she gets mad or becomes otherwise unreasonable, refer to my first paragraph. If she insists that she will be careful and is sincere, then consider it, but the final decision is yours.

Just went through this the other day, was hesitant to let my wife drive my car and she got upset, I mean really upset... she said it's not even about the car, more the principal.
Then I remembered when she first bought her G35 coupe when they first came out and everyone was gawking at them, she let me drive it anytime no questions asked. That made me realize what a jerk I was being - since then I let her drive my car whenever she wants, so far it's come back fine everytime. Which makes me feel a bit more comfortable about doing it again the next time. Bottom line if you think she's a keeper and you even said she's a good driver, then it's not worth getting in a huge argument over, just give her the keys and don't look back.

My fiancee and I don't really drive each others cars unless it's absolutely necessary. My fiancee doesn't drive much to begin with since I always drive her but when she does she takes her own car. She admits shes a shitty driver, ie doesn't always pay attention to road conditions, objects in parking structures, slopes of entrance ways, etc. Thus she doesn't want to drive my car cuz she's afraid of what she would do to it and she wouldn't be able to forgive herself. So she figures she'll stick to driving her cavalier so if anything happens she won't really care. I don't drive her car cuz I hate cavaliers with a passion.
Our situation is obviously simple. If your gf is all about driving your car just for show then I wouldn't feel great about that either. But if she is actually going to be careful and just wants to borrow your car then I'd be cool with that. Maybe also say that if the condition of the car is altered that it needs repairs then she will be responsible for the deductible. That would prolly scare her off if she just wants to cruise the car for show.
