I mostly wonder how they can afford all the mfg required to produce so many different models. The number of units per model has to be down. I would think that if someone is going to buy bmw they would regardless if there are 5 to chose from or 20. They seem to be cheapening the brand with this expansion of models and the materials being used in the new cars, I can't help but wonder, how are they engineered since they are spreading their resources so thin over all the models. Time will tell, but I think this pendulum will swing back after awhile as all these new models won't sell too well.

As long as quality stays up then they can do whatever. Once they become GM it's over.

I dont think they make too many cars per se. They have always had a number of them. They had to make SUV's because Americans with a single child who live in the suburbs need a 5 passenger four wheel drive.
What I dont get is why they continue to make cars that dont sell. The 3GT, 5GT dont sell. Americans dont want cars like that. Ask Honda with the Crosstour or Acrua who sold fewer than 1000 ZDX or whatever it is. Why call a 4 a coupe then come out with a four door? I think they will do a reset soon and figure out what this market wants. |

I hate to break this to you, but America is not the only car market in the world. It's not even the biggest anymore. And it certainly is not the most important to BMW. BMWs margins are high enough that it makes sense for them to sell niche cars like the GTs here as well - it just doesn't cost them much of anything to bring them over, the work is done for the more popular variants anyway. And you pay a BIG premium if you do happen to buy one of the niche cars - pure profit for them.
As for those who think BMWs are somehow too common these days, you do realize Toyota sells *100,000* more Corollas in the US than BMW sells cars in total here, right? JUST Corollas. BMW sells about 300K cars in a market of 15 MILLION, plus or minus. And once again - "coupe" does not signify the number of doors. A coupe is a car with a lower roofline, and thus the new 4-series Gran Coupe is a coupe. And so is the 6-series Gran Coupe.

Police don't care what model you drive... Is the car speeding? Yes. Lets pull him over!
Even the thing about red cars isn't so true, I didn't catch a ton of attention in my Lazer Red G35 Coupe...

Agreed, they are just adjusting their financial strategy to what the market wants, even if it means dilution of brand potency. However, I do think the GC's are a waste of money, but to each his own. I'm definitely thinking about debadging the rear now tho, just need to find the time.

BMW sells nearly as many cars here as they do in asia. Like everyone they are going to exploit the Chinese market. Other than China, the US is a critically important market to BMW. Hence we get our own models and they build them here.

BMW exists to maximize profit. Of course they're going to sell cars at the price point they can move the goods, and if that means a different branding scheme, then so be it.

I didn't say anything about fooling police... I said sheeple. The common non-bmw, Camry driver.

BMW is not surviving the market because of their reliability problems. They need to work on that more than releasing new models which will still have reliability issues.

The cars have seemingly all gone down in quality, while having the prices jacked. This should effectively eliminate the purchase of BMWs. It probably will have little effect on leasing, which is what the car co. concerns itself with anyway in the USA.
Seriously, your last car had forged aluminum suspension parts, and an exhaust that costs $6,300 retail to replace. The next one has stamped steel, and an exhaust that costs 1/3 that amount. But the price is even higher on the new one. And you get the new one anyway? I called that getting swindled and pi**ed, getting tricked by a bizness. Sheeeite. |

Until you put it on a lift and see the stamped steel suspension parts, and the fact that the fake dual exhausts is one muffler with two outlets, like on the 2005 Infiniti G35 and and the new Dodge Dart. Then again, this stuff doesn't matter to many people nowadays, they just want the roundel.
