I felt the same way, but after getting my M2, I enjoy it. Still love my x3mc.

Yeah, I'm sure it is. But this isn't some track monster car where that is important. IDK. Think I'd prefer it to open myself. I try to enjoy the weather on the few nice days we have around these parts (hence the Z4)

Take a closer look, the bottom of the grill actually has a mini-ledge now because of the pivoting.

Are people really asking for moonroofs that don't open? I don't get it. Seems like such a step backwards. Exterior is fine but man that interior looks cheap in pictures.

Actually, I'm asking for a steel roof with no glass of any kind.

The biggest trend that I'm seeing currently during my test drives is a full glass roof but with an openable moonroof portion and then the remaining 3/4 being stationary; most have an automatic sliding shade that'll only expose the moon roof hatch or go all the way back for your kids to stare up at the sun or something. Shoutout to Tesla for making everyone want a glass roof.

This thing looks like one designer worked on the front, one on the sides, one the rear, one the front and one on the interior but at no point did anyone talk, align or converge on a vision.

Everything looks forced and sparse. This confused new G45 doesn’t know who it wants to be when it grows up. Major identify crisis! I see a big lumpy refrigerator, just another appliance. Tesla must love this thing.

The entire vehicle is a step backwards and a sign of cost cutting. Will people still buy it? Of course but a lot of people lack taste too.

The only thing that really bothers me on the interior is the door cards. The dash with its materials im sure can be specifed to look nice, but those are the most half ass front doors ive seen. The lights im sure you can turn down or off, though BMW’s understated elegance is out the window. There is no place for a passenger to hold on to in the front seat! For a sport oriented SAV, there is no ‘oh sh*t bar’ to hold on to!!
I dont understand how a car that was designed almost in parrallel to the new 5 (which is no treat eather) can turn out so differently! My next bmw will likely be a used one.

That’s a complete joke. I cannot believe it… Talk about cost-cutting
To my knowledge this is an option and the standard is an opening moon roof.

Okay back that up with some data…

I highly doubt that otherwise

That's not what I see. The exterior design seems consistent in that they really wanted to streamline the surfaces and minimize lines. And there's a repeated motif of diagonal lines that shows up in lots of details all throughout, both inside and outside.

We don't have to like what they did. But it's pretty clear that there was a coherent design intent behind what they did.

I can't help but speculate that it provides cost savings. Consumers might not be asking for it, but Tesla showed the way...

Clearly not everyone agrees with your coherent design intent……

Can someone else take a look at that last photo above and zoom in on the window glass....does it appear it does indeed have 2 panes of glass confirming it has acoustic glass?

For similar money, I'm not sure how you pick this interior over this:

Not sure if the driving dynamics will make up the difference...

Smile

I know this is likely due to US regulations but notice the headlight has an orange stripe in the headlight. The press release for US stated, "The daytime driving lights, side marker lights, and turn signal indicators in the LED headlights are now all produced by L-shaped, overlapping light sources. Full LED Headlights with cornering light functions, plus blue design detailing, are optionally available, as are M Shadowline lights." What is the "blue design detailing"? If you look at the EU headlight, that is a blue stripe. Also the matrix headlights are legal in the US as of July 2024 if I recall, why is this still being decoded from the US specs when the G45 won't start production until Sept 2024?

That is such an unflattering color, particularly for the front end. I can't understand why that's the color they chose for the world debut?
I remember when the G01 X3 M40i came out, I believe the debut color was Phytonic Blue and it was really striking.

All in all, this new X3 is a big disappointment for me in the looks department and I'll be keeping my G01 for now.

It looks like the glass is single pane in that photo to my eyes.

On my acoustic glass there is a fine line down the centre where the sheets are bonded to the membrane, but it’s not much thicker in total that non acoustic side windows.

Red=glass pane
Yellow=outer seal
Green=inner v seal
