I was a bit intrigued at first, but ultimately I decided against selecting that option. Style wise, I personally think fabric finishes look too old school, and it feels out of place in a "sporty" car. Let alone the likely challenges with keeping it clean. But your mileage may vary.

Where did you read that the G45 can't be coded anymore? That's also concerning for me if true

From your examination of the product plan, how does one eliminate the blue trim pieces on the instrument panel and door trim panels? I don't see any option to replace them, even after clicking on all three trim choices. I'm not a customer for the G45, but I am curious as this seems so strikingly unappealing to me.

According to my coding company, as well as other threads on here the ID9 (and maybe 8/8.5) will require a connection to BMW's servers to validate any coding changes. Someone here posted they asked the folks at Bimmercode and they said, at least for now there's no path to code going forward. Might be worth pinging Bimmercode directly. I know for sure my coder said I wouldn't be able to get the headlights coded on the G45 and that's a killer for me.

Every time I see the fabric dash I think of the old rugs they sell for covering cracked dashes in hot climates.

I guess fabric dash will collect more dust if you drive around with windows down.

IIRC it’s because beyond iDrive 7 the system is now cloud based, and as you said the car calls home to secure BMW back end servers.

BMW started using secure coding with some versions of iD8 and as far as I know all versions of 8.5 and beyond will use it. Unfortunately the days of coding a new BMW are over.

I'd love to know the percentage of folks that either code themselves, or use a coder. Also, I'm assuming unless you have a "real" ISTA+ license nothing is doing there as well. This may well cost them some sales but I'm not sure they care.

I would guess it will have no meaningful effect on sales since only a very small percent, if even one percent, of owners code/have it coded.

Unfortunately no coding back the LED matrix beam masking in the US. I wouldn't want to be without this, it’s a real pisser.

The ambient lighting strips can't be deleted. But they can be turned off or set to different colors. See this video starting at the 17:50 mark:

From photos, they look OK when turned off. I'm not sure how I feel about them, but I probably can just leave them off if they truly annoy me.

Beside the drivetrain, the headlights are the best feature on the car.

Is anyone ordering a standard 30? I don't know if I'll be "upset" about the performance of it. I've been driving my X5M for the past year...

Does the 30 m sport have the boost feature like the X1. I haven't see anything about it...

This is going to be my non fun daily car to drive to work and sit in traffic going over the GW and throg neck bridge and of course Costco....
I just want passing power. I want to put my foot on the gas and it goes so I can get away from the idiots lol

There are those who will wax poetically about the the sound and feel of the 6 cylinder engine, and they are right. However, to be on the GW, FDR, Throgs Neck, BQE, etc., it is more likely overkill and wasted as you often just moderate the brake pedal at idle to make progress in traffic. I have a 2024 G01 30i and it has plenty of power as our "family car" and should exceed your needs as well in your environment and with your use case. It's about 6 seconds to 60mph, which is about the same in a family utility vehicle as it was in a 1980 Porsche 911 (per Car and Driver) sports car. Just don't try to compare it to your X5M. Compare it to what you actually can use or need.

How long is your daily drive sitting traffic ?

If it's a non fun commute car why not consider a hybrid or BEV, which can accelerate, rather than an X3.

Are any of the publications (C&D, R&T) gonna do a detailed test anytime soon?? I wanna see some real stats and driving impressions by people not affiliated with BMW before I decide whether of not to get one. BMW USA states 381HP and 0-60 of 4.6sec which is 0.2 sec slower than my current 2021 X3M40. If true, that would be really disappointing. So far only thing I see in this car over my current one is the red color option.

Not sure if US info is claimed 0-60mph, but in Europe we use 0-100kph, which is 0-62mph. Interestingly 0-62mph is also quoted as 4.6 seconds.

If getting an EV, probably best to lease. Lots of upcoming developments coming, likely by late 2027

-Battery technology (lighter, longer-lived, possibly cheaper)
-800V or higher voltage architecture
-Other performance technologies that haven't been
included in mid-priced vehicles such as torque vectoring differential

Also BMW wanting $20K for the X5 PHEV battery pack tells me current EVs are going to be tanking in value closer to the end of the battery warranty. And that doesn't even mean the EV can be driven if the battery is intact if it's software issues that plague the vehicle.

Eh depends I'm freelance videographer so I live on Long Island but most of my work is in Westchester, CT (Greenwich/darian area) and all over NJ. Mostly northern/middle NJ.
I get short notice sometimes on work assignments so I like to able to just go get gas and not have to worry about charging.

My old daily was a '13 Lexus GS and sometimes I felt like I could get around people because of the performance.

I would like to keep the cost somewhat down as of now I ordered a fully loaded 30. If I step up to the M50 it's like 8ish G more. Once I get the car I plan to fully PPF the car, ceramic coat the whole car/wheels install radar/ALPs, dash cam etc.So at that point just becomes crazy and I may as well keep my x5m....

I'm trying to keep "costs" down but its hard lol
I also want it to my family's floater car so my parents (in there 70s) and brother will not have a problem with it

For your use case, your logic makes good sense. Here is another data point from Car and Driver for the 2024 model that may provide reassurance. The 2025 30i should equal or exceed.

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't realize they were lights and not just trim pieces.
