Some times I wonder WTH they are doing with the current 4/2 door scenarios! People barely fit in 3 series back seat, so what would be use of a 4 door 2?!

Any ways, what I can almost guarantee is that they make sure its uglier than 3, so if that if you got the moneee, you will go with the higher class. I dont understnad why they can't make a cute small car. Like I hate the rear end of 2 series, it just looks unsophisticated. Sorry 2 owners, I'm not bashing it, its just my opinion. My case is that I don't need a bigger car, I want a fast and hot looking small car in the 2 class. BMW, like many other car companies, does everything they can to make sure a lower class does not look as good as the higher one.

Welcome back to the segment that you created and left with 2002 and original 3'! I am delighted to hear that RWD is preserved but hope you will get the exterior design and interior packaging sorted out.

The 35up or CLAR are RWD platforms, the UKL is FWD, and Im sure that they wont make the 2 GC FWD, as the car would have to look substantially different than the coupe, which is RWD.

People barely fit in 3 series? Really? Lol!!
In most countries outside the U.S., the 3 series is a huge car, I wasn't able to get into any underground parkings in Paris when I euro delivered my E90

I guess everything in the US is really bigger, but not to this extent , come on now

I think Scott said the UKL could be adapted for both rwd and fwd platforms.

My 2 cents.

Hi,

as the poll results suggest.. a 4 door please! A mini 6-series GC.. At this segment I would be willing to go sporty over superpracticality. Audi A3 Sedan is cool IMO apart it not being a BMW. Waiting for next spring though.. E30 325i MTech2 just went completely nuts and bolts.. Hoping to post a completely unique outcome with about 230bhp

Ok guys this is getting way outa hands.
Bmw have expanded their portfolio from the original 3series/5series/7series to now:
A. 1 series is the smallest 4 door hatchback
B. 2 series is the coupe of the 1 series
C. 3 series is the 4 door sedan
D. 4 series is the coupe of the 3 series
E. 5 series is the bigger 4 door sedan
F. 6 series is the coupe of the 5 series
G. 7 series is the biggest 4 door sedan

In between all this you have the X series 1/2/3/4/5 in the same manner as the above.
You also have the z series which is the 2 door roadster.
You have the halo "M" cars to go with 2/3/4/5/6/X/Z series.

Now they decided to screw everything up by doing a f@ckin 4 door version (gran coupe) of the "Coupes" 2/4/6 series. Seriously this shit has gotta stop. If I wanted a 4 door I would get either a 1 series/3series/5series/7series depending on the size I need. If I wanted a 2 door i would get the 2/4/6 series. Who the hell in their right mind would say "I want a sporty coupe 2 series but need 4 doors so I can take my kids?" . Then get the 3 series you dumbass.

Oh and don't get me started on the "Gran tourismo" versions of the 3 and 5 series. That is the most hideous and fugliest crap of all. Trying to merge a sedan with a station wagon is not cool. If you want space, get the station wagon versions. You've just ruined the epic title of "gran Tourismo" by adding that to your lineup.

Terminator335i, what is wrong with given more choices? You don't like it then don't buy it. There are plenty of others who would love a 2GC. For myself, a M2 and M4 GC would have been the perfect cars for my wife and I.

Make an electric-hybrid, station wagon, ///M version of this, then i'll think about it.

WTH IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???? When BMW offers to reincarnate the e46 M3, you just say "SIR, YES SIR, HELL YES ... SIR!"

I don't care how many doors! Man, some people here wouldn't know a good opportunity if it slapped them across the face!

the e46 M3 was a 2 door. no four was ever produced.
the M2 will be a 2 door. if you want a four door verdion, then the m3 f80 is available. thats the whole point of my comment.
1/3/5/7 are 4 doors and should be kept that way. Bmw said odd numbers are 4 doors and even numbers are for 2 doors and their respective, ie: 2/4/6. Thats the variety and expansion of Bmws lineup for the entire world market. No shortage of anything.
Whats the point of adding 2 doors to a coupe? Is it a coupe then if it has 4 doors?
Seriously people, think before you make dumbass reply comments.

listen WAY, do you know why Bmw started the even number series? They wanted to let everyone know that odd number cars 1/3/5/7 are 4 doors and even numbers 2/4/6 are 2 door coupes. Announced by the Bmw corporation themselves, for everyone to know. Plain and simple. Logical and smart.
It is now contradictory to their original plan when they said their "Coupes" will now have four doors called "gran coupe". Irrational and stupid. obviously they do it because there is a market out there for idiotic folks who would buy this ridiculous set up.
Fans of the m3 were up in arms when they announced the M4, by stating it had killed the name M3. Well they didnt. M3 still exists. It's got four doors. If you wanted a 4 door M4 like you said, they do offer it. Same body, chassis, styling, engine and performance. Its called the M3.

Honestly? I thought the UKL was for transverse engines, the platform would have to be very flexible to produce a front engine, rear wheel drive car. I remember I read that the i8 wont receive a larger engine anytime soon as the 3 cylinder is transverse, and half of the car would have to be changed to allow a longitudinal engine, but maybe thats just the body style.

If the UKL is really RWD compatible, then the next 1 series better be RWD!!

The Modular architecture is adaptable but this would be far too expensive to adapt for volume considering that the 2er Active and Gran Tourers based upon UKL are responsible for 70% globally of total 2er units and that includes the RWD Coupe and Cabrio.
A more flexible solution has been considered and when you first hear the upcoming announcement you will know it makes sense.

Personally, I would fall into the category of wanting a sporty coupe 2 series, but with the option of the 4 doors. Thankfully I have no kids to cart around, but 4 doors are a simply practical for whenever I have to transport a cat somewhere or have some stuff to throw into the back seat. Or on the rare occasion I am driving with 3 - 4 people. My 100% personal opinion is the GC styling is just overall better than the regular sedan styling. When I go to buy another car I would have owned my E60 for ~10years and I want to go for something smaller and a bit more fun. A M2 GC (or just a 2 GC) would complement our Z4 nicely and would save me debating if to go with a 2 door or 4 door. Then both my wife and I would have fun small sporty cars to drive. For whatever reason I have 0 interest in the current 3 series so moving up to the proper series category isn't really an option for me, personally.

P.S. I agree with all of your opinions on the GT.

I agree and I hate when companies do this.
They purposely make the less expensive car cheap looking, in order to try and push people towards the more expensive model, but the more expensive model is too big/heavy/ or not what that buyer wants.

I think it's stupid to purposely limit lower end cars, especially in looks, just because they're worried about the higher end models. As long as all the sales are going to the same pockets then who cares, just offer the best product you can.

A poll could be interesting. GT versus Touring for the next 3er and 5er. For the 2er a 4dr look nicer. Honda pull the plug on the accord crosstour and Acura Zdx two type of car that BMW is developping...

I do too. However, I already have two coupes. I would love a 'four door 'coupe. On hatchbacks, I owned my first and only one 31 years ago. I absolutely hated closing the hatch with a huge glass attached to it. I thought that one day the glass was going to break. Of course, it never did--but I hated the possibility of it happening if I slammed it too hard.
