Really sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. We had two dogs both of whom had to be put to sleep within a few months of each other. I lover them both, but the Lab was my girl and I did what you did at the vet's office. No need to say how difficult it was, but, it was by far the best thing for her which made it less hurtful.

I keep a lock of her fur in a little pouch in my tool box.

Sorry to hear SS. I'm sure Bowser enjoyed every minute with you. He looked like a very happy dog. I wish you strength during this tough time.

Hello everyone-

Again I wanted to thank you for your well wishes- it helped me beyond belief and I'm here for any of you if you ever have to live through this nightmare.

However, there has been a light to it all. I was specifically asked if I'd like to adopt a special needs English bulldog (partially deaf) who is 10 months old- and after meeting him; he and I instantly connected- just required a little more patience, but he's such a sweet boy. A little aggressive still with the rest of the pups in the. Neighborhood but he begins individual socialization classes on Monday. I feel Bowser helped me understand exactly how to care for and give this breed the best they deserve so I'm grateful he sent me this angel when I most needed it.

His names Homer, and he kind of looks like a little cow since he's black and white

Hah, good for you! He's adorable and deserves a loving owner such as yourself, I hope you and the new little guy share many great years together!

The best thing you could have done for the memory of your old friend was to let a new colleague of his into your life. I'd call this a happy ending!

Thank you! I hope so as well. My biggest hurdle was acknowledging this time around "what you went through with Bowser, you WILL go through it again". After meeting him, I knew it would be worth it and even more reason to love him more.

You won't go wrong with a bulldog. Gladstone is my first. He's 18 months old and 65 lbs. He's also my first bulldog. My wife told me that every Marine should have a bulldog at least once, so now I have one.

Talk about fun, friendly, and affectionate. And such a great personality. We take him everywhere we go (to the lake, the beach, pet friendly restaurants, etc.)

Also, he sits at the table with us when we eat, even at restaurants. He refuses to lay on the ground.

Only thing is they are a lot of work - cleaning between the wrinkles on his face, his ears, his rope, etc. If you need a list of cleaning supplies let me know.

Congrats! Glad to see you've found a companion. You're rescuing him, but he's also rescuing you as well. Always works both ways.

This may sound a little harsh, but I hope YOU go through it again. We don't know how long any of us will live, nor can we have any assurance we won't die tomorrow (accident, shooting, etc). So I hope you go through it again, in that you live long enough to do so.

Because if not, that means Homer has to go through losing you. Having lost a few dogs myself, I can say I'd far prefer to go through the pain of losing them, then vice versa, because they really do love unconditionally, and they'd probably wonder what they did wrong that you aren't there anymore.

Kudos to getting back on the saddle and getting a new dog that needs you, I'm sure you'll care for it like you did Bowser!

We already have a bullmastiff so are aware of the issues.
