This bike is overpriced for what it has, two others here said it right: car companies are crap making a decent bike (im shocked Peugeot hasnt released one give their heritage) and this indeed will be for sale 50% off at a local dealer in a year or two. Making an electric one in collaboration with some cool bike designer in Denmark or smth would have been a far better idea. God knows they are dying for cash on kickstarter. And a limited run production is perfect for them. Support some local community or smth...

BMW does have an electric bike, the eDrive ... same specs with a suspension fork instead of carbon. Deore/XT components. Same frame design. $3k

I highly doubt BMW cares about the little guy. Kinda like Specialized suing just about any and every business in the biking community.

It's...fine. But that's it, and priced at double its value.

bottom shelf Shimano components on a straight bar road bike. Pathetic. Some nitwits will be separated from their $$ being true fan boys though.

Ok ok, have to admit.. I'm one of those that actually owns one of these bikes.. I have the gray m bike same frame as this and with the carbon seat post..and it's a nice bike and heck of a looker. Tons of ppl have stopped and looked twice at it and.. then snickered at the roundel and the m badge.. so I have passed the bmw douche test..however, I only paid $500 for mine as some lady won it via a BMW service response raffle and promptly put it on Craigslist for $700.I just happened to be browsing for bike racks and saw it and figured i really couldn't go wrong with it and so I negotiated her down. Oh and I promptly bought the BMW spiral lock and light set too(Shopbmwusa had some deals). Now I can't seem to find the BMW helmet as that part number doesn't show up for the dealers here..

Lower end Deore components. An XT derailleur is nice but it's still the lower end of the top selection of components. Then there's the weight which I'd suspect is closer to 30 lbs than not (my fully outfitted aluminum full suspension 29'er that I built without regard to weight weighs that! The only carbon fiber I have on it is handlebars)

The M bike's level of components:

Brakes - Deore
Shifters - Deore
Crankset - Deore
Front Derailleur - Deore
Rear Derailleur - XT
Pedals - Look to be Acera or Alivio level ... highly doubt they're sealed

Wheelset - unbranded ... likely because its low level as well.

For those who aren't versed in Shimano MTB levels they're as follows:

Acera
Alivio
Deore
SLX
XT
XTR
Saint

There's also Zee .. but that's more aimed at downhill racers.

Weight ... The version with the suspension fork weighs in at 33lbs ... take off 5lbs for the fork swap and it's still a 28lb bike. Not exactly "performance" level.

As far as looks ... it's pretty cool. Almost if Mondraker and GT had a love child. Overall not quite worth the price. There's a lot better bikes out there for that price tag ... you're definitely paying for the cache of it being a limited edition BMW.

It just goes to show that BMW will put an M on just about anything regardless of it earning the badge. Sad.
It appears to be using the T8000 Trekking groupset although I'm not sure about the crankset since it does have a chain guard but it isn't the FC-T8000.

I don't believe Shimano sells the T8000 in the US, it's meant to be a good 10 speed component set that you can easily get replacement parts for if you're out in the middle of nowhere, something that may be difficult with a higher-end M8000 11 speed.

It's too bad they don't have the PD-T8000 pedals on it, great pedal for riding clipped or unclipped.

The McLaren Tarmac was kind of cool, not sure if it was a slap on badge bike or actual McLaren design but damn it was expensive
Mclaren actually still does some development with with Specialized. Unless my LBS is full of it, the new Roubaix was developed with them to get that dumb shock to work.

Not even a front suspension for that price? I bet the gears are lower spec shimanos too.
I'd rather buy the stringbike within the same price range.

Does it come with a compimentary “M” shirt like what the guy is wearing, as well as what appears to be “M” pomade in his hair? Might consider buying the bike if it does.
