I know alot of you had raved about poor quality and reliability with the New XF-R. So being an owner of the jag and an 8 month old X5 4.8 ill do a little comparison.
http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=306153 Exterior styling...ones an SUV, ones a car. Cant really compare that Interior quality....Jag Hands down, Looks hand made, Leather stitched dash and doors, seats are a softer leather with thicker stitching. just feels more luxury then my X5 Nav... X5 is quicker and easier to use (though i have only put 900 or so kms on my Jag) Heated seats...X5 heats up alot quicker and has rear heated seats, Jag does not Heated steering wheel... Jags gets alot warmer then the X5 Cooled seats. Not offered in the X5, Jag is standard Overall driving (dry roads) Jag is alot smoother, alot quieter...power steering is soo much better Overall driving (snow) its a given X5 with Xdrive Rear view camera.. Both have this opion, BMW's computer is soo slo, sometimes i have backed up already before it comes on, Jags in amost instant. I also hate how i have to click accept evrytime i get in the truck. Blind spot monitor...Not offered by bmw, Jag standard Sound/CD...Both comparable Comfort..Seats in the Jag are alot more comfortable. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dis-likes X5... -Have alot of rattes and creaks, which is not caused by my own personal belongings -Computer is soooo slow. Sometimes lags when iam entering an address in the Nav options. -Bluetooth is hit and miss (could be my blackberry) who knows X5 service history (8 month old, bought new) 13,000km's -new drivers side mirror (made noise at 100km's) -dash was pulled apart to fix a clicking noise -Breaks squeek (dealer says nothing they can do) -Back up camera failed to engage -Heater belt making odd noise (still has not been fixxed) Jag dis-likes -heated seats take twice as long to heat (then x5) -no heated seats in rear -Address cannot be set in Nav without car being stopped. -drivers side window had an auto down...but not auto up Service history. 900kms No complaints yet. I think reliability with be close with both car. As stated before, when my bmw needs service there is usually a long long wait, specially if you require a loaner car. (month and a half) With Jag I can Call and have the car in with in the week, with a loaner car. Iam quite happy with both the x5 and the Jaguar. I think alot of the stigma comes from past generation of Jag. Look at Audi before the A4, how was reliablility prior to them re-vamping their product line? |

What fucking dealer do you go to? I call for service, get an appointment and have a BMW loaner waiting for me the next day, a month and a half is outlandish

I couldn't agree with you more.
I don't even understand the appeal of slapping on coilovers to a BMW, there are cheaper ways to make a race car. BTW...I fucking love the new 'R' Jags. I have two neighbors in my townhouse unit who both have a XK-R, one a coupe, other a vert. |

+1 It's not a ghetto car.....

Do you have a good VC system that allows input while driving, or is there simply no address input while driving at all? From what I understand it's something that's been done to North American exports only and not in ROW models.(?) What if you're on the freeway and can't stop and you have a passenger acting as co-pilot. They should at least be able to input addresses! It's totally ridiculous, imho. This would be a deal breaker for me. But if it's true that ROW models do allow input while in motion, then there's gotta be a software work around somehow.... As I mentioned in my previous post, TATA has a lot banking on the success of Jag and I think they are concentrating on build quality and reliability. It's too early yet, but I think they'll succeed as long as the economy doesn't dictate more short cuts in production, etc.. |

I too haven't used the Satnav much, much prefer my John Joe Satnav (check YouTube it's worth it ).
A bit surprised you didn't comment more on the stereo, the brother has the professional hifi system in the X6 and it's not close to the quality of the B&W in the Jag. Also I agree on the heated seats, takes the best part of 4 mind before you really notice the heat. +1 on both camera system, mine too is instant and quite often the brother has parked before it comes on. |

Blacklemon, I'm sure it's no longer input while driving in the NA models. That's the trend. My 2009 still allows input manually and with VC, but not the new 2010 model. Americans and Canadians are either too stupid, too litigious, or both, to have this feature anymore. The ROW model of my E63 allows DVDs to be played while driving. In mine (USA version) I have to be parked to watch a movie. No fun for the front seat passenger on a long drive....
p.s., no auto up is a safety feature on just about all cars. |

so funny reading threads such as these, there are haters for every type/brand of car
but, long story short is that people are going to get cars they personally like bmw's reliability is shit compared to some Japanese cars, but people still get them (including myself) because the test drive alone blows a Japanese car out of the water |

Very true! It takes a month to book it in for scheduled maintenance or for any sort of service in Calgary.

That sucks. I've had to take my E90 for scheduled service and a few other things and I've never waited more than 3 days to get my car worked on. I guess it's the luck of the draw when it comes to dealers.

It is still disappointing they didn't use the aggressive headlights from the pre-production XF.
The american styled headlights just kill the front end. Looks ordinary. The rear on the other hand, looks amazing. |
