///M died with the 2008 ///M Coupe.

I've driven the
E92 M3
M5
M6
all latest models...

They don't handle like an ///M should.
Try driving the 2006-2008 ///M Coupe and you'll understand how an ///M should feel.

Don't debate it.

RIP

The funnest ///M car that I owned was the E36 M3. I have driven the Z4M on the track and it is a hoot.

So when BMW killed the new Z4M in favor of silly powerful trucks, something stinks in Denmark....I mean Bavaria.

I've driven quite a few M cars through the years and have driven the Z4M Coupe on the track as well, I haven't driven the new M3 on the track but of all the other the Z4M was indeed the best suited to the track, but it's no Cayman. Not by a long chalk.

In my opinion, with BMW making the Z4M Coupe better suited to the track they totally destroyed it for the road, all other M cars are far better suited to that domain and as most are driven on the road 99% of the time I think that is a much better compromise.

P.S.
The Cayman is also better than the Z4M on the road, so maybe the mid-engined layout suits both situations best of all.

Z4M needs more power and less UNDERsteer(it's too grippy at the rear end imho)

This is my definition of M:

And even though my car is a boat, it's not a Titanic like the X5/6M.

Because the 7 series is tailored for a smooth ride and road use. Just having a big engine does not a performance car make.

You seem to form alot of opinions without seat time Footie. So your opinions are sometimes comical.

Get some of the M3 / M5 / M6 and the Z4M back to back....then talk. And yes I have lots of seat time in all.

Maybe you misread T Bone, I have driven most of the M cars on the track with the exception being the new M3.

Anyway having an opinion is what freedom of speech is all about, it's not the world according to T Bone. In fact if you check out the latest EVO you will find that BMW seem to agree with that opinion of mine with regards to the Z4.

Bmw wont use the money to improve their line up come on. Not in this economy...the only improvement will be gas mileage in order to meet CAFE. I doubt that Audi would make an RS-Q7.... Ive always said get a disposable (new M-335-135-323-328) FOR DD and a used vintage E36-E86-E46-E39 ///M .....Well now see soccer moms getting MX5-MX6 Whatever theyre called ....RIP ///M

When have you driven an M5 or M6 on track? The only seat time that you seem to have is in front of the computer.

Only driven the following M3s on the track (E30, E36, E43, CSL), Z4s (2.5, 3.0 and Z4M Coupe) as for the others, I have spent a day with an M5v10 and a short test drive in the M6.

As I said earlier I felt of all the normal M cars I have driven on the track it was the Z4 which felt best suited but it's the least suitable on the road.

I would list all the cars I have driven on the track, what's the point when you disbelieve all the ones I have listed by BMW.

The E36 M3 was a great car, but I am sure your memory of it is better then it actually was. Or maybe it was just the "funnest" car at that time.

I had one that I put around 65,000 miles on and it was great, to this day I shake my head at the foolish things I did behind the wheel of that car and got away with, young and foolish (at least my parents had the sense to let me go to Skip Barber School, that definitely saved a couple of cars...if not lives). I'm rambling like an old man.

Point is, I sold the car to a good friend, then drove it a couple years later and it just felt like an old car, if you drove one now it would not feel special at all.

I'll just disagree with you, it's by far my favorite M5 of all that have been produced

i'm gonna miss the screaming sound of the v8 or v10 though. To me, that is music to the ears. I don't think any turbo will sound anywhere as good as the NA engine.

I do like the look of the X6 though. Best looking SUV out there IMO. I wish the X6M comes with the v10 from the m5/m6. That would be cool screaming down the highway in an SUV at 8200rpm

The E39 M5 was a personal favour among M5s of a lot of motoring journalists so you are not alone with your opinion. I too prefer it to the current M5 but that has less to do with the engine and more to do with it's gizmos and basic balance.

If I was totally honest I feel the perfect N/A engine should always have a minimum of 75% it horsepower figure in ft/lbs of torque but never where the torque is greater than the horsepower, this might explain why I love the AMG engines so much but can't stand the rest of the package.
