Looks like it was inspired by the Supra too. Speaking of which, I wish Toyota would bring it back - always liked those cars.

the LF-A is nice...but not $375k worthy.

How can two Japanese companies with such similar performance abilities price themselves so far apart. Given the choice even if the Lexus was priced the same as the GTR I would still pick the Nissan every time.

The first time I looked at the specs of the thing I just thought it was so wrong for what Lexus should be producing as their brand's pinacle model, they should have produced something ultra modern with some form of energy regeneration system and power cells to be combined with the engine, especially at this price bracket.

No doubt it will be brilliant as a hardcore supercar but is that really what Lexus is all about, especially when you look at the rest of their range. This car is so wrong at the moment it would be laughable if it wasn't such a serious deal for Lexus and Toyota.

And don't forget the pink paint:

That engine sounds awesome though.

Bets on how long it takes for this thread to get moved to the general car forum?

wut!

For that price I can get a ZR1, a GT-R and a 911 Turbo.

You could get his and hers R8's for you and the wife.

You could get a 458 Italia and have $140,000 in your pocket to spare.

You could get a GT-R and have $300,000 left to play with.

You could get a pair of Ford GT's.

All for a perfected Supra. I'm just...I just don't think the audience is there for Toyota like they seem to believe it is. Not for a glorified Toyota. I could be wrong, but I think people looking/willing to spend $375,000 on a supercar will want to go with a car from a company steeped in racing tradition. That's not Toyota.

excellent comment left on one of the sites talking about this car:

Quote:
you're going to have a very hard time convincing your average car enthusiast, not the guys you meet at your civic meets Wednesday nights at the boba cafe, that this car is relevant and not full of fail.

Look at the 2000GT, toyota's first supercar. beautiful, fast, capably priced.
Look at the LF-A. Not beautiful by any conventional car metric, not cohesively designed, not faster than cars costing half the price. Because the nature of this blog comment section is to weigh cars on their merits, the LF-A comes up quite short. That the most efficient car company on earth would need to loose money on a car that costs twice that of the F458 speaks volumes, especially when Nissan can compete with the F458 for Hundreds of Thousands less.

I understand you're excited because it has a lexus badge and a V10. Fine. But even weighed with a jingoistic only Japanese focus this car still measures shorter than its Italian and European competitors while costing more. To most car people, that's not a raging success. For that sorta thing, look no further than the GT-R. heavy yet intelligently engineered, brand new ideas which manage to make it staggeringly quicker than cars hundreds of pounds lighter and at such a remarkable price. Nissan has shown us they’re the new masters of this game, Toyota has shown us how far they need to come.

[...]

Toyota's the most efficient car company in terms of production, yet they're charging more than zonda money for something slower and still bleed money on each one?

I understand we have a few toyota fans here, and for them I understand their excitement that toyota has finally produced something capable of matching say the R8's 0-60 (though the R8 has the engine in the right place) and the McLaren's top end (though the mclaren has the engine in the right place) and is still slower than the GT-R off the line. I get that. But stepping back. If Audi had charged more than they charge for the Gallardo for the R8 and cried that they couldn't figure out how to do it without loosing money, we'd all be laughing still. Just as we laughed when VAG said they'd never make their money back on the veyron. Trouble is, the veyron's the fastest car on earth. This car's no more remarkable than cars from established supercar makers half the price and that just doesn't sit well.

Nissan did their halo car right. A true remarkable advancement in automotive design, heavy yet fast as fack, and cheaper than anything remotely close. In short, they did the impossible. Toyota didn't. They took dramatically more time and money than their competitors to produce a car which is just as good, and they're forced to hope customers will foot the bill. We'll see how well this sells. And befor anyone begins talking about the Zondas let's remember they're faster, lighter, cost the same, and are true limited run cars.
I totally agree in every way.

I hope they lend one to Best Motoring for the battles. That's all i want from this car, it fails to incite an emotional response from me and i certainly dont want one even if i were shopping for a new car in that bracket.

This thing better put out some numbers that unquestionably demolishes the Nissan GT-R to justify its price tag. Its not like the looks are worth that price.

I agree, I'll take the Ferrari 458 instead, which has 10 more horsepower and 40 more pounds of torque - and probably save $125,000+.

I'd take the new McLaren and a Maserati over this. For a Japanese sportscar, no slam here, to ask for $375,000 is a very very high threshold.

Not only does it need to destroy every other car short of an ALMS prototype but it's gotta look like it was created by Michelaneglo with space alien technology. Even at 500 units I just don't know.

I ask myself does this car looks or performs like it's worth $150K, $200K?....but $375K? I suppose there are enough people in the world to fill 500 orders, I imagine a third will stay in Japan.

The GT-R would only be this car's worst enemy if the LF-A were around $150K. The difference is the GT-R conquered all comers at an amazing price point, the LF-A is a no holds barred supercar with a price to match, it might as well be $600K. I'll pick one up when they get marked down to $65K.

I'm not trying to bash what clearly is going to be an amazing car, just wondering why it exists considering the price tag.

I suppose it's part of why Toyota is in trouble, they created a car for every single market and got enormous, be it cars that were in-mass or exotic, wanted or not.

Not Toyota like at all

4.8-liter 72-degree V10 putting out 560 hp at 8,700 RPM (that's 116.5 hp/liter) and 354 lb.-ft. of torque at 6,800 RPM
Redline: 9,000 RPM
Titanium valves, connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, dry sump lubrication and a titanium exhaust manifold
Six-speed sequential gearbox
Torsen limited slip differential
3,263 pounds with a 48/52 front-to-rear weight distribution
Power-to-weight ratio of 5.8 pounds/hp
65 percent of the body is carbon fiber
20-inch BBS wheels wrapped in 265/35 ZR20 Bridgestone tires in front and 305/30 ZR20 in the rear.
0-62 MPH (100 km/h) in 3.7 seconds
Top speed of 201.94 MPH
Production limited to 500 units

I don't think I would ever in a million years pony up for this car. 458 Italia in a heartbeat over it, its still a Toyota. Let me ask my dad if he'd give up his exotics for this, I'm gonna guess he'll laugh in my face

$375K! Wow, I guess people with money will still buy it for its exclusivity since production is limited to 500 units. But for me, even if I can afford it, I'm not sure if I would want to buy it.
