Will X5 LCI be 2023 or 2024 model?

I would have thought LCI would come in 2022 as 2023 model?

Interesting and thanks also to the OP for the G87 updates. Am I right in assuming that the 450PS tune is in the base M2? Any word on output for the M2 Competition? Again I'm assuming the base M3/4, which we don't get in the UK, has 480PS in EU/UK (OPF) spec will this be the tune in the M2 Competition?

  • Will be available with a manual and an automatic. Most options will be the same as G80/G82, and I don't see much of that decontenting that was done with the original F87 compared with F80/F82. Though ceramic brakes and bucket seats seem to be missing, all the drivetrain and suspension things are the same as G82, and even carbon roof will be an option. The wheels will be 19" front and 20" rear, G87 specific design. The first four months of its production will fall into the "M 50th anniversary" period so expect the initial run to become somewhat collectible. And the new dashboard will be standard from day one.
  • G87 M2 Competition will indeed be called "M2 Competition".

455hp for the base M2 and for the G87 competition will it be the 473hp of the base M3?

  • In production until 07/26 (G05, F95) and 03/27 (G06, F96)
  • LCI in 04/23. Models likely almost the same as now, with X6 sDrive40i dropped at least in the US. Will get the refreshed B58 and the new S68 engines. M package becomes standard on X6. Ambient Air and Acoustic Glazing will be available; X5 will have the illuminated grill like X6 does now.

G07 X7
  • In production until 11/27
  • LCI in 08/22. Will get the refreshed B57, B58 and the new S68 engines. The lineup remains the same as now. All models will get the 48V system. The new dashboard is making an appearance.
Given that we are seeing the S68 in the current X7 and the new 750ix, I'm surprised that we are also not seeing it in the 8 series before it goes out of production.

As for getting the S68 in the X5/X6, will it only be in the M version or also in the M50i version? I'd assume only in the M version if the new 5 series is skipping the 8-cyl engine (in the non-M version).

8 series are clearly not where BMW is focusing its R&D these days. They're not getting a full scale LCI, their production has been extended past the usual 7 year cycle, I won't be surprised if BMW stops making cars for that segment altogether.

S68 will go into the M Performance cars, not full M ones. At least not yet.

That gives 338/339kW for the base G87 M2 and 353/354kW for the G87 M2C/M2P.

That's quite a bump considering that the base F87 M2 (2016) got 370ps, the F87 M2C (2018) 410ps and the F87 M2 CS (2020) 450ps.

If it Is the case i guess that would make the M2 competition the only competition model available with the 6MT.

Let's wait and see.

It can be taken for granted that both a manual and automatic gearbox will be available on the G87 M2. Still offering a manual transmission (despite the lowering take rate) is a unique selling point for BMW M compared to high performance cars sold by Mercedes and Audi.

Also Porsche still taps into the manual gearbox market. Porsche GT boss Andreas Preuninger in 2009: "First, the PDK weighs 66 pounds. Second, PDK does not have a clutch you can control, and if you want to do really big drifts, sometimes you need a clutch." and "The manual gearbox in the GT3 is the best match for the purist." (source: here). And in 2010 he commented: "Grandmas can use paddles. They aren’t challenging." (source: here). A couple of years later: the 991.1 GT3 RS was PDK only. On the 992 GT3 (2021) - offering both a manual and PDK gearbox - the PDK gear shifter was designed ...to mimic a manual gear shifter.

It's not a big jump if you consider the S55 F87 M2C as the "baseline" for comparison rather than the N55 M2.

Garage List
ynguldyn any updates on the M4 CSL numbers (rumoured or otherwise)? After the interview with Markus Flasch, everything is as clear as mud on that front.

The 745ex and M750ex are now designated as having an S58 motor; previously the motor was B58. Is this a recent change?

No, just a late night edit. Just before that I corrected the XM line to say "S68" instead of "S58" (which in the hindsight was a dumb mistake - I literally had the right clue in front of me for months, no underhood pics needed) and then got a short circuit in the brain.

@ynguldyn from what you can see is the "touchscreenless" version of the new idrive 8 dash chip shortage driven or an intentional choice for lower end/decontented models
