I'm a sick fuck, but when you see how folks sometimes manage to check out you have to laugh.....that makes me wrong, right?
You're not sick....nor wrong. I may have smiled a time or two. Lol!

I drive an Explorer exclusively. We still have CV's, but I hate them. I never drive them anymore.

Yep! Just last night too. She punched herself in the head and then called the cops. She claimed he hit her. We figured out the truth and she went to jail.

Lot's of times. When I was a young copper we had a regular that used to beat her husband, she was a real piece of work and her husband was blind. She used to kick the shit out of him when she drank.

A lot of woman would give their husband a punch or kick and then call the cops...really shocked when they got pinched.

I've seen statistics that show that the female on male violence is about the same as male on female but it rarely get's reported.
^^This!!

Yeah I thought so. Deputies around here are all in Explorers now. I think some of the older guys might have missed their sedans but maybe not. Truth is, I got a Cayenne 3 months ago and when I think about the cost sometimes I wish I'd got an Explorer. The interiors are no match for German luxury but they do drive well.

Funny story, driving the other day with wife through a two lane desert area and we both see what we think is the ass end of a cow entering the desert from the road. Now I'm only going about 52 in a 45 but really don't want to hit a cow and slow further. This kinda enrages the guy behind me who was already acting antsy and he closes on my ass end. Well we get to where the cow disappeared and it wasn't a cow. Shitty old people eyes. It was the ass end of an Explorer going into a little dirt turnaround and now its the front end of a deputies car. I am going 40 now (still thinking cow) and car behind me is close enough to smell his breath. Guess the Deputy thought that was improper driving so out he comes and pulls over the guy behind me. No clue the outcome but I laughed.

The crown vic stopped being made in 2011 lol
Most of the departments around here went with chargers, taurus’ and explorers

2011?!?! If someone told me they had a 2011 crown Vic I would call them a liar. Seriously thought they discontinued them in like 2001

Our station fleet is about half CV's and half Explorers. Every station's CV-to-Explorer ratio is different. The department has a bunch of brand new Explorers sitting around, but they only add one onto the line when a CV finally dies or somebody wrecks a CV or Explorer. I have an Explorer that I hide in a secret spot at the end of my shift(s). It ensures that I always have one available and that it's always clean and tidy inside & out.....well, as clean and tidy as a patrol vehicle can be.

I never got to use the Charger's or much of anything other than the CV's, our department bought a ton of them and stored them when production ended. I loved them, but then again before that it was the caprice or diplomats....and the comment on having a clean and tidy scout car, working in a big city it was shocking how filthy they'd get. My platoon followed a platoon that had a PW who was the biggest pig on the planet.....it got so bad we'd take her garbage out of the car when we relieved it and stuff it in her pigeon hole, there was so much sometimes I'd have to use a broom stick to get it packed in.

I miss the job sometimes.

Have you ever been around a crime scene and all of a sudden the FBI shows up and tells you, ‘we’ll take it from here’?

Naw! That's movie stuff for the most part. I'm not dealing with major federal crimes on a day to day basis. The closest I have come to that is with terrorist shootings. I've been through a few and the ABC agencies definitely get involved.

"Foot" was a funny thing. It was actually a pretty plum go, you weren't tied to the radio and calls for service. You got to eat in a sit down restaurant and do some actual pro-active police work. It was also used on occasion as the penalty box. I got put on the "Post" on occasion because my hook thought I needed it....I knew my neighbourhood so had a great time....I got put back in the scout cars pretty quick because I was enjoying my punishment too much.

No. The only exception is working parades. The closet you'll get to foot patrol on my department is an assignment to Transit Services Bureau (...patrolling trains/train stations and responding to issues on transit buses and at bus stations; usually transients).

Working "Foot" I think is something that usually is a big city thing.

I'd really like to know what form of training you guys get to deal with the &^%$s protesting and calling you names and rioting/"protesting". I am way too old now but in my youth there is no way I could stand there and let some moron with no concept of civility spit at me or throw rocks at me. There would be a price. I admire how little beatings these "protestors" are getting.

Spitting and throwing rocks is assault/battery, so we arrest people for assault and battery on a peace officer. For mere words we just deal with it. It's annoying, but it's just words.

I worked Public Order for 10 years, they tend to weed out those who can't take the verbal abuse.....you can say just about anything to me and I don't care, call my mom a whore....maybe you dated her and know something I don't....talk about my wives....any of them, trash talk my kids.....whatever.....but don't touch the blue, don't spit on me don't throw shit at me....and when I say me I mean anyone wearing the blue. We used to go out early in the day in "soft tac", ball cap's no helmets or shields. We practiced an approach where we would personalize ourselves to the crowd, folks are less likely to throw a brick at you if they talked to you earlier in the day, we were very friendly, fuck I was damn charming. That bought us a lot of good will, but don't be fooled, if things started to degrade we would happily bring the pain. You have to remember that it's not personal for the cops, it's just the job.

When you get a ticket for speeding for example, you will likely have your day ruined by it, you'll likely complain to your co-workers and your significant other. The copper that gave you the ticket has forgotten about you by the time he's back in his car and thinking about what he's getting for lunch. So when you call me pig or what ever you think is clever I'm thinking about getting Chinese take out later. Hope that helps. Oh, and I worked in Chinatown.....I miss the good lo-mein.

Enjoyed reading this thread, and I learned a lot.
Thank you sedan_clan and Murf993 and any other cops.
(I alternate my time between FL and Toronto and seeing cops from the US and Canada talk was welcome reading)

You guys have a tough job to do - putting your lives on the line every day - I appreciate and admire that.
I've dealt with some Ontario Provincial Police and RCMP folk at government jobs in the past, and for higher security clearances and the like, never had a complaint. (so yeah, I'm middle-aged/old)

Hoping the current spate of virtue signalling stupidity stops soon and people just start seeing context instead of the dumbed down single angle/single issue society seems to be devolving into.
(And while I'm wishing, be nice if they'd take personal responsibility, oh, and since I'm wishing, a pony, too)

I have been ticketed. But it never ruined my day. Part and parcel driving is sometimes you are in violation of something (my case usually speed) and once in a blue moon by enough and at the wrong place - boom. I never gave it a second thought. A CHP nailed me once in California driving my 240Z on the highway early AM doing about 90 MPH. He asked my how fast I thought I was going. I said "too fast or we wouldn't be talking". He was amused and wrote me up for a lower number. Heck, it was 6 AM and an empty freeway.

Funniest thing about these current riots about defund the police is when someone drives through their illegal road blockage they are all yelling "where are the cops".

Is highway patrol presence light lately or is it just me? I just drove 1,700 miles in 24 hours, including fuel stops and a quick nap. You can imagine what kind of speeds I was able to hold at times, road surface and slow vehicles in the left lane permitting. I didn't see many cops, and 90% of them were marked on Waze. The fact that I didn't get pulled over in 20+ hours of speeding seems odd, since I didn't dare to go more than 9 over the limit before in my home state of NY (LI).

PS: impressive fuel economy cruising at 90+ MPH with hundreds of pounds of cargo.

PSS: saw a car stopped on the side of the highway. On a level, straight stretch of road. At night. Charger taillights visible a mile away... I would imagine that officer issued 0 tickets that shift.
