Some Qs and observations:
1. No highway assist? The hands free feature till 80 or 85mph 2. M50 20 inch rims / tires are wider. 285 rear tire with 10.5 rim is thick. I believe that’s wider than the X5 20 inch wheels (in US) that are 275 squared. I hope this helps improve the rear stance of this car Overall, I think it’s far from a disaster… Among all the new gen non M SAVs, it looks definitely better than iX, X2. I’ll put the design in the similar bucket with X7 and X5, and maybe X1. It’s still a much more attractive package than competitors.

"Since first establishing the SAV segment in the premium midsize class, it has been instrumental in the steady growth in popularity of the BMW X models and, indeed, became the brand’s best-selling model in 2023." Not sure if that was for all BMWs or only the SUVs. Since the US prefers SUVs way more than sedans, I'd say it's for ALL. |

2) I hate staggered setups but they purportedly help with handling. I'm sure I'll grow used to the exterior (no choice after a couple years, LOL) but the interior already makes my current mediocre interior look like a million bucks! |

Any reason the interior couldn't follow the 2025 i4 design especially on the doors? There's also more buttons under the center vents, it seems.
So change for the sake of change? https://www.bmw.ca/en/all-models/bmw...pe.html#design |

I was really really waiting for the official the reveal of the G45. Had planned to get one for 2026 when my current '23 XC60 has to be replaced. Just looking for the phev.
The interior for me looks like most modern cars atm. I agree that on the pictures it lacks a little bit the high quality taste, but will wait until I can see it in rl. For the ambience lighting there will be more relaxing settings than the bright blue and red, for sure. I am a friend of new technology, but some more buttons, especially for the climate controle would be good. The XC60 also just hast a touchscreen which is sometimes anoying. The new panoramic roof looks great, but I would miss the possibilty to open it. The luxury dashboard for sure won't be in my configuration. From the outside I feel it lost the nice muscular look of the G01. Missing the clear defined wheelarches; in combination with the new grill and the shape of the front bumper it feels harmless, at least for the M-package. Here the X1 or even the X2 with m-package look way more aggressive. The rear is ok for me, perhaps some visible exhaust pipes would be nice. The grill would be something to borrow from the M50 since the new design feels weird; the M50 ones are ok at least. In the configurator I miss a nice grey, like skyscraper. Here the sophisto grey or sapphire black helps to cover the missing hard lines on the outside. For me I am uncertain if I can grow on this car. Will have to see it in real and decide afterwards. But there are just few alternatives for me. The XC60 is nice and was a stopgap when there were no phev available in time; and it is doing a good job. It was originally planned to get a G01. It turned out that the XC60 was doing way better in range (driving electrical most of the time) and has more space due to better battery placement. Infotainment system in G01 is way better, even if the XC60 has android automotive. So my expectation for the G45 were to clear up with these downsides on the G01 phev. On paper it looks like. Something I would wish is a 40e version, just a little bit more power over the 30e phev, like a XC60 T8 over the T6. Perhaps the upcoming iX3 based on neue Klasse will be an option, but not sure if it will be available in time. Last edited by OleX; 06-19-2024 at 08:26 AM.. |

All these odd design choices that none of us understand... it's because they're marketing toward China mostly now, right?

Are the crazy interior lights an option? This picture from BMW blog almost looks like wood but I think it's lighting also. At least you can tone down the crazy lights.

I saw another image with toned down lights. Wish they would’ve marketed it officially with that, instead of the overzealous red and blue.

So now that I've confirmed that this is coming with the B58TU2, already on the X5 LCI, 7 Series and X7, has the engine been tested enough since it debuted in 2022?
It's almost as if the redesign was to extract more power and for better fuel efficiency and this version goes back to the 2-port instead of the 6-port the B58TU has. I've only heard of Miller cycle in those rotary engines from Mazda in the 90s. Hoping the B58TU2 proves to be even more reliable or there really isn't much reason to upgrade from the G01 except for slightly better power and handling (M Sport Diff standard). My wife just purchased a 2023 CPO M40i and so we won't be upgrading anytime soon but it's good to know this M50 has M Sport Diff standard in case we will be in a market for a used G45 down the road. It was hard to find a CPO G01 with that feature here in Ontario, Canada. |

Front lateral air con vents are now in the doors?
Cheap, poor interior design. Some idiot thought: Let's put some big LEDs here and there so it all kind of blends together. Another: Fabric would be original on the doors, so there can be 100s of stupid owners trying to keep them clean. WTF BMW? Was this misery solved during a Zoom meeting? I like the front seats design though. |

So far so good
Outside styling looks good. The mat grey paint looks great! My objections: - No special M seats at the moment. Same as in 5er There is a basic option for sport seat from 520 to i5 M60 , same goes for new X3. - The fabric Volvo-ish interior.. how vegan they wished we were there at BMW pride headquarters ? - most important, no engine upgrade. The same b58 which is as we all know, an underrated motor and produces much more than 381 offcial horses. And basically all the engines are coming from the X1 except the M50) Interior quality feels less near to BMW we used to know and more near to Hyundai we are learning these days. |
