Wow they really are going after the S4.

Not to mention the RC-F starts (no options) at $65k. The IS500 isn't going to be too much less than that car...maybe starting at $59 and topping out at close to $70? I could see it.

Again the point I was making to someone else that posted, was that the IS500 will not be the same price as the just released starting price for the Type S ($50k). Option for option, I think there's going to be a $8-10k difference between the two. Even the M340i is just under $60k (with only a few options) in the US why would we expect the IS500 to be any less?

Well it is "ancient" like everyone else says. We can keep going back and forth, but I think it makes more sense to revisit this topic once we have official numbers from both automakers. |

it'll be interesting to see where the actual 'as tested' prices come in. Acura usually comes pretty well loaded from the factory. If lexus can come within $5k of the TLX with similar options i think that would be pretty amazing. $10k would be stretching it a little, although not that much of a difference if you are financing over 4-5 years (lol i'm sounding like a dealer now)

After seeing the TLX in person the first thing that you will realize is that these cars are massive. The new 3 series will look small next to it. It's well proportioned but it's long and wide like few other cars on the road today which kind of makes it stand out in the crowd. Looks alright as well but the rear end looks worse in person as there's too many creases going on. I'm not sure I can get back into a Japanese car myself but if you like Hondas or Japanese cars the Type S will likely be a good purchase.

Drove the Advance last weekend back to back with the A4. The TLX was a bit underwhelming. At least for me. Ride was ok. Road noise seemed pretty poor.
The A4 is winning the fight for my next car purchase right now.

The G70 still looks like the better value option, a loaded 3.3T is same price as the base trim Type S and you are getting a real RWD platform with the G70. With the inevitable dealer markups, these early ones will be going for more than an M340i too.

Ouch, priced extremely close to the Germans (apparently more than the S4). Agree with the opinion above, G70 3.3TT is a superior driving and priced vehicle. It will be interesting to see how this does for Acura.

I'd rather have an M340i with almost 0 options for like 2.5k more to be honest. That would make a rather fine daily driver.

I think they're catering to different buyers, though. 10-year cost of ownership is going to be drastically different and a lot of Honda/Acura buyers aren't really considering German counterparts.

just watched the smoking tire / matt farah review looks like the car is still trash for sporty aggressive driving. 4200 pounds with 350hp. terribly slow transmission. i can't understand how honda can build some of the best manuals but their autos are so lackluster. i thought the ZF8 in my 335i was bad... but i drove a 2019 TLX with the 9 speed auto and its worse. seems like it would be a good DD though. I just can't stand any transmission that is slow or doesn't do exactly what its asked. ruins the whole experience.

wow talk about a porker.... anyone know the weight distribution on it? Must be like 60-40 or so considering how understeery it is by nature, which is the opposite of "sporty". Instant fail for true drivers, a win for grandmas and grandpas.

I wonder why Acura kept the S at 350 HP? That horsepower figure is really in nowhere land...not powerful enough to challenge the German competition that gets to low 4's for cars like the S4, M340i, etc...it would have been as simple as increasing the boost? A V6 Camry these days is almost as quick.
Love the fact that this car is back, but the power figures are a real letdown for me. |
