BMW Unveils the ConnectedDrive Store

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – December 18, 2014… Today, BMW announced plans to allow customers in the U.S. to use an all-new ConnectedDrive Store while inside their BMW vehicle to purchase select ConnectedDrive services, intelligent services and apps that provide drivers with information and entertainment during a drive. BMW is the first auto manufacturer to offer this convenience through the car in addition to sales channels at a dealership or via its BMW Assist™ call center.

At launch, services in the BMW ConnectedDrive Store available for purchase include Concierge, which provides practical information and advice to make every journey more comfortable. A live representative can, for example, help to find the locations of a theater, a restaurant or a hotel. The address can then be sent directly to the BMW’s navigation system. Also included is emergency calling, which allows Concierge to place a phone call on the driver’s behalf if one does not have access to a cell phone. Additional options available for subscription at the time of the launch are Navigation Map Updates as well as Internet service, which drivers can access safely and conveniently by iDrive Controller and the integrated high-resolution Control Display.

When drivers log in to the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, they are presented with an overview of the services and apps that are available for purchase or have already been booked for their BMW. Drivers can also see remaining running periods for booked services as well as costs to purchase extensions or new services. Once selected and paid for, a service or app can be used within minutes.

In advance of the expected Spring 2015 launch of the ConnectedDrive Store, this new development will be on display at the BMW pavilion in the South Plaza, outside the Las Vegas Convention Center’s South Hall during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, January 6-9, 2015.

It would be great if iphone sessions of whatsapp, telegram, Skype and so on be seamless integrated via bluetooth. For example if I could reply those text messages with voice messages.

Connected Drive Store already works in Germany but with lots of trouble at the very beginning!

Remote services did not work on many cars due to database and server errors. Took them nearly one month to fix!

Don't be too disappointed that only a few things will be offered!

How do you mean? There are a lot of bugs with the platform sure, but I'd say a large portion of the bugs stems from Spotify/Apple's development not BMW. Now I'm just curious if you know much about computers.

I haven't had luck. Text messages yes, but not emails...tried every setting and technique under the sun.

When plugged in, the app has to be open on the phone to work.

When used over Bluetooth, the track data gets stuck at the first song that is played, (and you of course only have next/prev song functionality vs playlists, browsing, etc).

Apple's Music app works extraordinarily well, even over Bluetooth, but it's just too late - very few use iTunes anymore.

The only time emails work for me is if it's set to "push" the message and I receive an email while driving. For example, I have some contacts set up as VIP, which results in a push message notification that can be seen from my lock screen.

That's what I thought you meant. These problems stem from A) spotify not designing functions to use the app over bluetooth they designed the Spotify app on BMW's SDK's (Software development kits) and B) Apple not allowing anyone to access the apps (besides their own) while the device is locked.

What I can see happening in the future is BMW charging us to download their app that integrates with Apple's carplay/Android Auto OS. Fortunately once that does happen spotify will have an app for those OS's.

so...is this a new bmw computer??? cause i usually just "drive" my car..maybe listen to some tunes...ridiculous. A "concierge" to tell me things I could find anyway. People buy anything thats thrown at them. just put a fancy word there (most dont even know what it stands for) and bam sold
