I love it also, fabulous ad. I was watching Law and Order tonight and saw it.
Funny thing is, I knew it was a Apple ad, 3 seconds into it.
I think the last time there were Apple commercials for computers, not ipods, was back when the imac first came out.
Quite a long time ago. Very nice to see it.

Personally, I'm not sure.
I could order one now, but they're not shipping for a few weeks at least.
The stats look real good. 2 to 3 times the performance. Depending on the task. If I can render faster thats it for me.
I've had a new Mac, almost every new model about once a year for quite some time, and have had great experience in the past with new models.
Anything that wasn't right Apple customer support has always dealt with to my satisfaction.
I'm not trying to start a Mac vs. PC thread, thats pointless, but I do like that commercial, it's such a middle :finger: finger to Windows, given with such style and class that only Apple could do.

Let me know if you get it. I just bought an Inspiron last month. So I wont be due for an upgrade for a few years. But it would be good to know what to look for. I cant seem to convince myself to switch to the Mac interface....

I bought an intel Core Duo iMac this friday! It's an astounding machine!!!!!

It's my first mac, and my first impressions was it was like a wonderful gigantic iPod. Frontrow is great!

Also the Ad seems to be a Shot for Shot "ripoff" of the postal service video, "such great heights" even though both were done by the same directors. But without the bands consent.

Here's a side by side comparison from youtube, this is amazing they're in trouble with yet another ad this past year, the first being the Eminem iPod/Lugz ad.

Curt3 If you need any help with any software or questions PM me

I'm going to sell my 17"PowerBook 1.67 in a month or 2 and go with the macbook pro. Very excited.
The only thing I don't like is on the 15" macbook, there's no Firewire 800. Only 400.

Have any of you watched the keynote by steve jobs?
If your into Apple/Mac, litsten to what is happenigs.
Good stuff.

actually, intel got in a bit of a trouble because of that commercial. at a press conference, they asked intel executives if they're implying that other manufacturers are basically crap compared to Apple. they said they are in no way associated with the ad and/or share Apple's beliefs about this matter.

once the transition is complete (all software converted to the new platform), the new Intel Macs will ROCK!!

How is this new processor affecting the software? Is still Mac based just some backend code has to be re-written or are they going to be from the ground up setups?

That keynote is what sold me on the new Mac.

So far I've imported my 30 GB iTunes library from my PC, thousands of my photos into iPhoto (very quickly), played with a Nine Inch Nails song in Garage Band, setup firefox, setup a .mac account, used the email application to access my gMail via POP, setup BitTorrent and Proper port forwarding, played with Photobooth with the iSight, burned a few DVDS (very fast).

And of course standard webbrowsing stuff, and viewed my music, videos, music videos, photos and DVDs on the screen via FrontRow with the remote.

I've only had one program refuse to work, (Because of the Core Duo?), and that's Azureus. I'm hoping for a new version soon.

overall It feels alot like standard G5 macs with only standard improvements on non Universal Binaries, with some notable exceptions. I'm banking on the fact that this machine will become increasingly fast with time.

The system is still completely UNIX based, and all I know is developers are still scrambling to port their applications built with Cocoa over, and integrated Dual Threading of the Data. As I understand it.

Also it completely boots in 30 seconds!

My laptop is always in 'sleep mode'. I only have to reboot when the software update needs it.

I know Wintel laptops can go into sleep mode, but it doesn't seem as good as the Mac sleep mode, and Wintel "Hibernate" while good for saving power still takes too long to boot IMHO.

My Wintel boots up in like 1 second from sleep mode.

People who didn't use the latest X-Code tools are having to do a great deal of work... ie Microsoft with Office - oops!

I really want to play with one to see how good Rosetta really is at running PPC binaries.

Unlike with the PPC transition, Mac OS X is native... when PPC was launched a great percentage of OS 9 was still Motorola 680x0 code and ran on a translator

Yeah, but I can't leave my HP latop in sleep mode overnight like I can my PowerBoook.

Windows is just clunkier. I use both all the time, so I wouldn't consider myself biased... the Apple is just the better made and better working machine... plus it has Unix on it's side, and I am a CIO who comes from a hardcore Midrange/Unix background.
