Now is the time for a new Acura Integra
If Acura wants to win over younger buyers, now is the time to bring back the Integra. All the Germans have a compact car again (1er/2er, [letter(s)]3, CLA) and even Infiniti (Q30) is getting into the compact game. Honda has a fun little platform they use for the Fit. Upgrade the components, put in an engine that can at least show in terms of output with its competitors, price it accordingly (i.e., not equivalent to the Germans), and they've got a sweet pseudoluxury pocket racer. Even if they give it four doors! With the rebirth of the NSX, bringing back the Integra (call it the RSX, I don't care) would be like a full on rising (not fully risen because they have other things they need to address) from the ashes of what has become of Acura.

Never understood why demand fizzled for the RSX.

Doubt it will happen. And I thought the ILX was their attempt at a replacement(compact car). Civic Type R is all we'll get and would have liked to see that in an awd platform.

I had an RSX, loved it. Had it to 200k kms and never had a single problem with it. Acura's never been good with marketing though. Around the time they discontinued the RSX is when they started going downhill with the big ugly silver "shield" in the front and pretty much nothing that could hold ground to their competitors performance or luxury wise.

Either way, there are legions of Honda fans and tuners. To not be able to take advantage of the built-in fan base and get more of them to transition to Acura is a complete failure. But they certainly could slot in a fun little compact in to reinvigorate youth interest in the brand. |

So would it be Civic-based and front wheel drive?
I don't think Honda has really solved torque steer the way VW or even Ford has. I had a 2nd gen VTEC Integra and it was fun for its day. But torque steer was never an issue for the 1.7 liter I4 with 160hp and 121lb-ft of torque. Lol. It would be cool to see them revive the S2000 as a hot hatch or hardtop coupe. |

Funny... I was just talking to a buddy that my very first experience modding a car was on a '93 blue Integra. I freakin loved that thing cuz it took me a long time to save up for it back in the day. I would probably still have it to this day if it wasn't stolen in front of my brothers work place. I was so bummed.

The Integra was a very straightforward and uncomplicated car. The problem was the fact that the "simple" mindset didn't fit the luxury brand of Acura. So as much as we want it, there is a hardly any justification for it in the Acura line up.
From a business perspective you have the think of the Integra as a Honda. In that case, where does it fit in the line up? Technically it could be a coupe bodied Civic Type R. If Honda was smart (and I truly mean the marketing guru's) they would sell a Civic Type R 3 door or 5 door and then market an Integra as the coupe variant. A'la BMW marketing. 3-series and 4-series. Same car, different nameplates for body styles. Even if it was front wheel drive, the motor and good chassis tuning would allow it to be in the same realm as the FRS, BRZ, Miata and similar vehicles. Allowing a low entry level cost and then allowing it to be optioned to a crazy degree (ie. Mini) would allow for a wide range of buyers. There is potential to make it truly work, but all of these factors have to be taken together. Using existing platforms and motors, while allowing for a sleek design and the "nameplate' would mean success. It's the positioning that seems overly complicated as the Integra is no longer Acura material and cuts directly into the Civic line up. |

Like the Civic Si/Type R, Integra, and Prelude. Today, if you look at Hondas lineup it's sad. Pretty much a mirror of Toyota. All about generating sales and managing bottom line. Acura flip flops every 5 years between trying to be luxury and sports oriented. I feel they're always playing catch up since the 2nd gen Best-selling Acura Legend. In its day, it was a desirable car. Especially the 6-speed coupe if anyone remembers it... |

The civic has grown into a big car. It's 8 inches longer than a 2er and only 0.1 inches shorter than a 3er. I think there certainly is space in the lineup for a smaller, sporty car. I won't pretend to know the intricacies of the economics of automotive companies, especially multiple companies with corporate links. And, I don't know if it makes economic sense for them, but it seems like there could be some decent profit if they could sell volume of a car that is smaller than a civic for the same to slightly more money.
