BMW Car Club Mexico 10th Anniversary Event
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com For this special occasion, we rented a large venue near Mexico City where we could set up a few driving exercises and have fun with our cars. Initially, we set up three exercises: - A wet “moose” test to have members get a feel for how the cars behave with all assists off in slippery conditions. That was a lot of fun. Quite a bit of spinning went on in a controlled, safe environment. - We also had an acceleration/precision braking event where you would accelerate fully and then brake while trying to place your car in as little time as possible within a very, very small braking target zone. Side by side with another car. So, it took some thinking beyond just going fast. On that we graded the attendants and gave out prizes that were sponsored by Imagen Motors, a local dealer, to the winners. - The third exercise was half of the autocross that we’d setup later so that members could get a general feel for cornering and handling. Three groups rotated among those exercises. All instructors were club volunteers of course. Finally, we built a highly technical and fun mini-track. Basically an autocross course where each group would go out behind a pace car and have fun around it. I got to help pacing those groups. For one of the sessions I got to drive the new M550i that was also brought by our local dealer. I will do a separate review of that car as well as of a 540i that I had for a week (that one provided by BMW Mexico). Here I´ll just say that it was very, very impressive. Personally, my wife and I brought out our 1M and E60 M5. We had never autocrossed the big beast. It was surprisingly fun. Those SMG shifts at full tilt in S6 are fantastic fun. Having said that, the 1M was built for this kind of fun. I frankly think it’s one of the best driver’s BMWs of all time. Additional notable sights… Can you spot the difference between these two? Wrapped 1M... Very rare (here) M4 cabrio... Wrapped M235i First & last of a dynasty... We also had support from the local BMW Mexico corporate office. They brought out an i8 and an i3 to dress up the event. We had a great "comida" at the end and handed out awards to the day's winners. Overall, we are very satisfied with the progress the club has made over the last 10 years and are hoping for many, many more. Greetings all from your fellow BMW enthusiasts in Mexico.

Have you ever had your 1M worked on across the boarder at BMW of Encinitas? I think I've replaced your turbochargers before.

You're right, for some reason, we get European Spec cars here, that means that the M4 GTS has the race seats, race seat belts, the factory extinguisher (not that you need it), and a subtle darker tint for the rear Windows which would otherwise be nearly imposible to install due to the roll bar.

You guys really missed it!! We had a blast of time with the exercises on track, the amazing cars and lots of good people here... and the food!!
The altitud is something to mention, the OFFROAD TOLUCA is even above regular Mexico City's, the turbos worked really well, but some drivers mention something about the natural aspirated cars: the cars got "some power loss", still amazing to have them all roaring all the trackway!! We had a lot of good practice and lots of pictures too !!! eriku

I am a bit surprised about the N20832 stickers on the GTS and the other cars...seems like some of the Mexican drivers are really deep into the Nordschleife culture!
