BMWCAA Membership Benefits?

Hello,

I was wondering what benefits joining the BMWCAA offers? I did check the site out and noticed that new members DO NOT get any of the road side assistance services. The only other things I can see are events, discounts on auto products and hotels and the new car rebates. Of course for new car buyers they can get a discount on new cars but you still need to pay $134 for a three year membership. Anyone here a member and if so, why?

Just wanted to understand the value you get out of being a paid member.

Thanks

Do you track your car? If so local chapter members of the track you are going to get first dibs before it's opened to everyone else.

You get a discount at the parts Dept 20-25% off, at least I do.

The $500 rebate I’m getting on a new car > membership dues so that’s enough to join. Anything else is just a bonus. The magazine is ok but if I wasn’t a member I wouldn’t pay to subscribe to the magazine. There are some other discounts but many I might use overlap with other discount programs I have elsewhere and I haven’t gotten much out of them. Some people like to go to their events.

I've bought two cars over the past two years. $1000 in rebates pays my membership for a few years! I actually enjoy the magazine. The local scene for me is non-existent as I live hours away from large metro areas. But I do try to attend at least one event per year.

Limitations on the rebate (can’t combine with USAA for example) and the reduced amounts in recent years have limited its value.

Mike Miller jumped the shark years ago. Still stuck on the same themes, and pretty snarky to anyone that asks an innocent question (for example, about an automatic trans).

Magazine is all fan boy, as expected, could be better but I think is better than the PCA mag anyway.

Discounts on parts at some dealers, sometimes a rebate on a new/CPO car, something to read on the throne, track events and if you have an active local chapter some social meets and touring, which can be a lot of fun. You can go to Oktoberfest for the national meet, and buy lottery tix for their new BMW raffle.

Like any club, what you get out of it depends on how involved/engaged you choose to be.

Greatly depends on where you are.

South Florida chapter is pretty boring, they do no track or autocross events. So unless you plan on buying a new car, the membership is pretty worthless imo.

Whereas when I lived in Toronto, the track events (HPDE Schools) and auto slalom were awesome events and well worth the membership.

I haven't done anything with my chapter yet (Rocky Mountain), but the discounts I get on service (either indie or dealer) alone pay for my membership.

Other than the rebate for buying a new car, I found the membership to have little value. The magazine is awful and barely worth the paper it's printed on. As another poster wrote, Mike Miller has gone from offering helpful maintenance advice to giving spiteful comments to anyone who doesn't follow his maintenance plan or dares to drive a BMW built after the E46 with all those unreliable electronics and computer wizardry.

My dealership only does a 10% parts discount, but I'm there often enough that it more than pays for my membership.

My chapter is extremely active. So lots of activities and local business discounts. Plus they have an annual M Car Day.

My two chapters (sandlapoer and tar heel) are super active. Events at the performance center and the monthly meeting usually has the newest M car brought to look at. The track events at VIR/Road Atl (Peachtree chapter) and CMP/Roebling are always sold out. 200+ at some of the track events.

We also have the largest C&C in the nation I believe at Michelin HQ's each month. Sometimes upwards of 800 cars with vendors, food trucks, and special cars that Michelin brings out.

For me, it was a no-brainer. I was ordering a car, so the 3-year membership was less than the rebate.

While 2-3 people have panned the magazine - which certainly is fanboi but that's what it's for after all - but there's at least one article that I always enjoy.
Has race coverage of all BMW stuff, including DTM and others. I like the current set of columnists - Mi Ae Lipe is awesome - although a couple are self-important popinjays.

The free for sale ads are nice if/when you sell.

The forums there aren't very interesting. But you do get access to more than Mike Miller - there are several technical advisors that will respond with pretty good advice on problems you're having.

Can anyone please explain these two raffle rules in detail?

RAFFLE RULES

4. Prizes will be awarded based on MSRP as of May 1, 2018. Any price increase prior to delivery will be the responsibility of the winner. All taxes, license fees, options, and/or destination and dealer prep fees and all other fees and charges are the responsibility of the winner.

5. Prizes subject to availability. BMW CCA reserves the right to substitute a cash prize and/or BMW model of equal value. Federal taxes will be withheld. If a prize does not include a cash allotment for payment of federal taxes, a certified check made payable to the BMW CCA for required tax withholdings will have to be received prior to taking title to the prize.
