Yeah this guy is a joke, you should listen what he says about BMW's and Germans cars in general. According to him the only good car to buy is an old-school Lexus or Toyota Camry.

LOL exactly, his opinion is that unless you buy a 1991 Honda Accord, you are wasting your money. He would look down on all of us in this forum for our vehicle choices.

So this guy is a bit of a knob and know it all. Having said that much of what he says is true about battery life, replacement costs etc. I think EV's have a place in big cities perhaps but that is also full of challenges. The notion that EV's will solve the worlds GHG problems is a dream. I think the climate activists are ignoring the issues with mining of the rare earth minerals for the batteries, the coming costs with updating the grid to supply the electricity, the loss of revenue from Gas Tax and all the associated costs. I don't see myself buying one anytime soon but I guess time will tell.

People here may not like it, but he is pretty much correct that most German cars are over-engineered vehicles that will not last 200K miles plus.
If you accept the fact that he is talking to the masses who think of a car as just another appliance, he is pretty much spot on. When it comes to German cars he tends to recommend leasing them, which is something I'm pretty sure a lot of people here do.

I have no issue with people leasing, we are free to make the choice, but this narrative that it is cheaper than repairing a used german car is not true. |

[QUOTE=Sedoy;28057801]True, but they are getting a lot better at recycling and reusing lithium and rare earth minerals. Also electric cars can be charged at night then the load on the grid is minimum. The whole electric car industry is very new, so give it some time, in the beginning of ICE cars revolution they weren't even close to that they are now. BTW, Jason from Engineering Explained had pretty good comparison in his recent video:
Interesting. A few things though, 7years to balance out a 25mpg car vs EV. Who keeps their car for 7 years? I'll hang onto my MB diesel GLK which is currently getting about 34mpg highway (most of my driving). A lot of what he talks about is hypothesized and based on Tesla's numbers which may be somewhat self serving. Also, I can't remember the last time I bought a new car so the numbers for me become very skewed, and the thought of buying a used EV, ah not thanks given the ticking time bomb that could be battery replacement. |

Remember when everyone was up in arms about the Toyota Prius and that it was a hybrid and that it would never work because the battery would poop out in 2 years? The fear was real. The fear is back.

Yep. I work with a guy that has an early production 7 year old Model S 85D with 150k miles. It is actually faster today than the day it was new and the range is basically the same. Overprovisioning works.
